"Do you think Canon will have a firnmware update to include these new ERR messages for my 20D and 30D? I sure would like something more exciting than the ERR 99 messages that I've received in the last couple of days."
No, you will need upgrade your camera if you want these. Of course you will have fewer error messages in the 50D than the 1D's. The new Mk IV will let you create your own error messages under a new custom function ... in err3, for example, you can name the photographer and even create thumbnail image to go with it .... oh no, I've said too much!

Canon must be test marketing different models, mine has error tones.
You can even download custom error tones for $0.99 each.
It also includes a custom function to text you every time an OOF picture is captured. Unlimited texting service is recommended prior to enabling this CFn.
Look, I don't want to be mean to anyone and I certainly don't like some of Canon's decisions, but if I, as a Canon shooter, were to post something like this in the Nikon thread, they would tear me a new one over there.

Thats because Nikon shooters have no sense of humor.

Actually, given the chance Nik cheerfully rips into to all with his tongue firmly in his cheek and I note all but one of those who saw fit to comment saw the humour in his posting. Your just lucky you dont leave yourself open to him in a face to face situation

Although it is a personal policy of mine not to adopt newly introduced error codes, until they have been thoroughly been tested by the pixel peeper community.

Go back and read the thread again, I posted a couple additions myself.
By and large neither side seems to have much room for self-deprecating humor...

Really? And you know this... how, exactly? Hey, if you have enough flair for humor to write something anywhere close to this funny, then please... I beg of you... post it on the Nikon forum! Why should Canon users get all the benefit of Nik's wit?
Lighten up, dude... and if you don't want to be mean to anyone, then don't.

Zero. Zip, zilch, nada, none. Darn straight, and proud of it. We, as a community, as publicly ashamed of Nik's depraved love affair with the H-word. We dread to confess that this maniac is still on the loose as we search diligently for punishment appropriate to his sins. Torture, death, dismemberment, and excommunication have been suggested, but were deemed too light a burden, just a slap on the wrist really.
Someone even suggested forcing him to shoot with a 1D3, but no one deserves that.
I'm sorry... I'll go back to my humorless cubicle now.

Whoops, you must have posted this while I was typing in my last post. Seems you got me there... I actually thought you were serious, like rsg over there. My bad... sorry!

Canon are proud today to announce the release three new premium error messages; Err98, Err97 and Err95. These 3 error messages work alongside the current Err99.
Only three? We've waited this long and only THREE? No wonder Canon is slipping. Rumor has it that Nikon is coming out with five new error messages, and four of them are ULTRA-premium. If only I didn't have so much invested in Canon glass....

Hmmm..... no-one asked about the missing Err96. Maybe Canon has something up it's sleeve.
That was the first thing I noticed, and I had to read through the entire thread to find that no one considered it noteworthy.
I'll bet that Canon will not offer a free download of Err96, and it will only be available with the 1DIV and the 5DIII.
"Err96: Chuck Westfall has sent a text message answer to your inquiry, but all three of your CF cards are full or busy."
