I have way too many lenses since I have not sold the ones which don't get any use. I still need one more lens; ultrawide, I'm waiting the Zeiss Distagon 21mm ZE since I have very little use for ultrawide (this far, 17-40mm is not exactly inspiring lens to me...) and don't want to spend big bucks to C/Y version. Currently using 1DmkIII, getting 5DmkII in next week.
Alternative lenses:
Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2.8/28 - mainly landscapes and sometimes wide angle close-ups, excellent rendering at f/8 and f/11 from corner to corner - center sharpness excellent already wide open
Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2/35 ZF- have been using this one with 1.3x crop as a normal lens, excellent in all areas specially in 3D rendition of objects, with full frame this becomes wide angle and with wider lens perspective it will look even better. My 2nd most used lens, competing with 2/100ZF about the 1st position, not much behind.
Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 3.4/35-70 - have not yet shoot with this one yet, but purchased for travelling (less lenses to carry), people say it's as sharp as primes in it's focal length, I'm not huge fan of zoom lenses and I'm very interested to see if this statement is true or not.
Carl Zeiss Planar T* 1.7/50 - have not yet shoot with this one, normal lens for full frame, very cheap lens.
Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 2.8/85 - have not yet shoot with this one, cheap short tele and pretty strong 3D rendering based on sample pictures
Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 ZF - excellent in all aspects except green/magenta fringe in bokeh high contrast areas, my most used lens with 1.3x crop and moving to full frame will not change this.
Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 3.5/100 - have not yet shoot with this one, reason why I purchased this lens is that I wanted to evaluate this lens myself, based on example photos (e.g. 1, 2) this lens has one of the best 3D effects of Zeiss lenses. Quite cheap lens.
Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 2.8/135 - have not yet shoot with this one, purchased since the sonnars seem to have pretty strong 3D effect, even not strong performers in sharpness etc. Quite cheap lens.
Carl Zeiss Tele-Tessar T* 3.5/200 - in my quest for 180-200mm lens this lens seemed to be bashed as bad performer by people, but samples I have found show nice 3D effect and generally look good (at sizes available to view) - decided to try it myself since this lens was also quite cheap.
Leica Summicron-R 50 mm f/2.0 - normal lens when Leica rendering preferred
Leica Elmarit-R 90 mm f/2.8 - tele lens when Leica rendering preferred
Leica Vario-Elmar-R 80-200mm f/4 - in my quest for 180-200mm lens this was recommended and for travelling I'm tempted to reduce the number of lenses so the zoom functionality may become handy
Nikon PC-Nikkor 28mm f/3.5 - not using this lens, better results can be achieved with panorama techniques, lens is not sharp as I would like it to be, specially at corners when shifted, low contrast (some like this, I don't)
Nikon PC-Nikkor 35mm f/2.8 - not using this lens, came with the PC28...lens is a soft and low contrast (some like this, I don't)
Canon lenses (underlining = sports/event lens when autofocus needed, bold = used also in situations where autofocus is not needed, normal text = very little use, if any)
Canon EF28mm f/1.8 USM, Canon TS-E45mm f/2.8, Canon EF50mm f/1.4 USM, Canon EF50mm f/1.8 II, Canon EF50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro, Canon EF85mm f/1.8 USM, Canon EF85mm f/1.2 L USM Mark II, Canon EF100mm f/2.8 USM Macro, Canon EF135mm f/2L USM, Canon EF180mm f/3.5 L USM, Canon EF200mm f/2.8L II USM, Canon EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM, Canon EF17-40mm f/4 L USM
