Just wondering what people think would be a reasonable price for a very good condition Olympus 35mm Shift?

I have the opportunity to pick one up, but am unsure what I should offer. I don't want to rip my mate off.... but I also don't want to put his kids through college, if you know what I mean.

I've seen them on ebay going for $475 to $525 USD as a "buy it now" item. I got lucky last month and found one in like-new condition on my local Craigslist and picked it up for $350 USD.

Depends on if it's the MC version or not. $350-500 is about usual for a non-multi-coated one. Cheaper prices on ebay are a roll of the dice of course. the rarer multi-coated ones start at about $550 and up, unless you get lucky and find someone who doesn't know the difference.

Great lens, btw.

Thanks everyone, that helps a lot. (BTW.... I just found one on eBay that ended without meeting reserve. Highest bid was US $360.00 and BIN US $445.00)

Mine was the MC version...got lucky and found it in an "Olympus and Nikon gear for sale" ad on Craigslist...$350 out the door.

KEH has them for $600+ - I wonder if they beleive in "price to sell"

The MC version should be around $550-$600.
The non-MC version should be $400-$450.
On ebay, it's hit or miss unless you get a reliable seller.

It's not very often you will really notice the difference between the MC versus the SC version. The lens would really have to be put thru a torture test of sorts to bring out the extra flare or effects of not being multi coated. There's reality and the perception of reality

When you buy one of these, make sure it is a sharp copy. I have seen a few less than stellar copies. Also confirm with the seller that the shift mechanism on the lens is not too loose that it does not stay in place.

FWIW: I have my second copy up for sale in the B&S forum for the low end of the price range... very sharp copy for sure.
