p.1 #1 · Saving the Morning

On my way back home from the Eastern Sierra I tried for a location about half an hour north of Bishop to catch some of the mountains at sunrise. Well, it was a spectacular sunrise, but the clouds were everywhere except where I needed them! Rather than go back to the car empty handed I took some scenes I normally might overlook.. not as dramatic as my last couple, but I thought I'd share them

"Snowed In" - some lovely desert plants dancing in the first rays of light.

"Good Morning" - normally I'm not really interested in silhouettes in front of a few pretty clouds, those scenes usually don't have the depth of emotional impact I generally try for. But these were probably the most beautiful clouds and light I've ever seen, so I couldn't just stand by! The sensual curves and predawn glow are what interested me, and I didn't have much to work with other than that stand of trees, so let me know if this works for you.

Both with the 5D and 70-200 (a lens I rarely use.. so it was neat to play with that focal length again!)

From the "micro" to the "macro" and both aesthetically pleasing in the extreme!

Floris,

Like them both.
The first for the delicate feel, shadows & pastel colors fading left to right.

The second one's clouds are truly delightful.
I think with the trees sillouette give an almost abstract feel
Thanks for posting

Great clouds! And the colors in the snow are almost photo art. Nice!

I LOVE the second shot. The flow of the clouds and the color is great. The first doesn't do much for me.

I like both but the first is special IMO. I love the transition from blue to red and the fine delicate textures.

Hey Floris,

Well I am glad you decided not to go home empty handed! I really like that first one. Great work there.

Hi Floris,

Love the intensity in the second one. I'd love to see a portrait mode featuring the second and third trees on the right and extending the view up, into the color. In any event, sometimes color is enough.

Nice work, Floris. Beautiful delicate catch in the 1st, and a striking silhouetted dawn in the 2nd.
Well done.

Thanks for the suggestion hugh - I can see the appeal. Unfortunately I only had the 70-200 on me, would have been a good time for the 100-400
