p.1 #1 · My attempt at sons senior portraits

Here are a several photos taken of my son for senior portraits. All photos were taken in natural light just before sunset in rural South Dakota and photoshop used on all three in different degrees. Critique more than welcome.

Good stuff. How does he like them? That's the key question.

Some may gripe about the railroad tracks; ignore them.

I agree that 1 and 2 are the strongest. #2 has a slight greenish cast to his skin on his face - doesnt match his arms. Maybe adjust the skin tone on his face separately.

I like the first two. Where did you get the texture?

So nice that your son has a talented photographer mom! I like the first two. The third one has too many distracting shadows all over him.

I like the first two. You have a handsome son!

Here's a few nits on the first, which I still feel is the strongest image of the bunch.

Notice the black hole next to his head where the windshield is broken. The contrast of the glass next to the hole takes attention away from the face. Move your son a little so his head is in front of the hole.

The cardboard box in the truck steals attention. That's a 30 second fix (I'm assuming the truck is unlocked).

What's to the right (west)of the truck? I'm thinking of a photo where you move to the right and lie on the ground. This would be great if there are some good clouds. Have your son sit on the left fender, looking forward, dreaming. I'm seeing a pano with your son and the truck at the right third of the photo, with lots of prairie in front. There would be a low horizon, mostly sky in the photo.

I think your second rr tracks shot you posted is just kind of plain and could use some snazzing up in PP like the first you showed.

A couple of nits -- his head is 'chopped' by the horizon at the neck - maybe get up on a step stool to avoid or crouch down but there is already too much blank sky to keep the shot interesting. The horizon across the neck is just not very appealing to my eye. Also, the tracks are just so centered that it leaves me asking - why are you shooting in the middle of a rr track? Doesnt really bring anything to the party when presented in such a vanilla manner.

Hope these comments are helpful and taken as intended - just my opinion trying to help with some honest C&C.

i really like the first 2 but don't care for the texture on #2. i think it would be great without it.
