Thanks everyone. I feel as you do about other iconic images that inspire me to shoot those popular places. Everyone's take is personal.

Thanks, mercapto.

For the record, this is not HDR, stitched, or a blend of multiple images. Just one frame. I may have used a GND, but I can't recall. I did remove some contrails from the sky

Missed this one. Very nice. Musta been shortly before I ran into you? Nice saturated colors and you captured the mist in the valley. Beauty,

Jim

This is truely an amazing shot Jeffrey,
I agree with the others the mist really adds to this comp.

Despite the iconic, and oft-photographed location, this image is fantastic. Wonderful comp with just enough, but not too much. Most importantly--awesome light! Nicely done, and great PP.

Nice simple comp of that beautiful place. I can't quite put my finger on it, and I feel a little out of place as no one else has mentioned anything, so maybe it's just me, but something about the contrast isn't completely sitting well with me. I think for this morning light I would have expected the clouds and el cap to be a little brighter? I've stared at this a while now, trying to decipher what I'm seeing, but I thought I'd mention it. Anyhow, you've got yourself a fine classic here

Thanks.

Floris, it is not morning light. From what I remember, it was early to mid afternoon. Color temperatures change throughout the day, especially in a valley that is mostly in shade all day. AND, there are two distinct color temperature zones here, the sunlit and the shadow. It may have been best to bracket white balance and merge. Still, I think it works as is.

I think that might be it - the strong blues in the shadowy mist, accompanied by the warm mid-day light on el cap (forgot how long it takes for the sun to really hit all of it), it's just not a combination we often see (in most places).. so that's probably through me off. Now that I've gotten a better handle on what's going on it's sitting well with me

I think those are actually Ansel's holes. Nice image of a beautiful spot, it's bringing back the memory of the cold...
