p.1 #1 · what are you all doing in the "off" season
Just wondering what some of you are doing in the wedding "off" season. I know that its not the case everywhere but here in the frozen Minnesota, it's not all that popular to get married in the winter time.
So I was just curious what you do to keep "fresh"...or would you rather take a small vacation from photography in all. I have been revamping my website :
looking through a bunch of video's on lynda.com and finally getting through a lot of the tutorials that I've been meaning to watch and read, also building a couple of DIY items. Just curious.

I go skiing!
Oh, and I revamp my price lists and update my ads, website, and stuff. And shoot completely different stuff than weddings. Next weekend I have a 10-model pin-up session.

new website coming...but probably not till july 8(
then im going to start a fresh batch of ad media to go along with a strategy
thheeeen im going to take a break
in 09 im actually going to be working with a business around here that employs ten or twelve photogs, and my biz, mjb digital is going to have approx three down years....

you have an off season? I wish!!!! We dont get an off season. We have weddings every month of the year. in 2009 we actually have at least 2 each month so far and some months every weekend.

Here in Illinois is it prime wedding planning season, so lots of emails, calls and meetings with brides. I did have a wedding the last weekend of December, but now I am free for awhile.

THis year I don't get an offseason. 2 weddings in december, had one tonite, got one 1/14 and then 3/7 and 4/15. Nice for cashflow though.
I now have 3 albums to design sitting on my desk, 2 seniors still to finish, a bridal show next week to prepare for and a studio that I am trying to get the finishing touches on.
If I ever slow down I want (need) to redo my website, senior pricing for 09, update samples, and of course work on taxes for 08 and marketing plan for 09.
I have a PPA convention in late january and am attending a weeklong school in March.

Working on photography business documentation, website stuff, etc.
Where in Minnesota are you? I'm in Fargo and we just had a wedding on January 2! Pretty chilly, everything was late, people were slow to get ready, limited on time...ugh! I miss the summer/fall weddings already.

Yeah, no off-season in FLorida. I *just* started doing this on my own, so I only have two weddings for next year. Otherwise I'm reading a lot, doing my taxes, updating my website, creating marketing materials, and doing some practice shoots with friends (my wedding gifts to them).

I have been globe-trotting in my private jet buying up expensive hotels while I moonlight as a vigilante dressed up like a muskrat (you've probably recognized my uniform, it's a fur coat with a long tail and press-on nails). On the weekends I drive around in a psychodelic-painted economically-priced mini-van with a red dog solving mysteries Hanna Barbera-style.
Actually, I've been keeping busy with shooting a few private parties, quinceaneras, and engagement shoots. I've also been playing around with shooting with only prime lenses and no flashes all the time and trying to challenge myself with new styles.
Oh yeah, and then there's also the *sigh* day job...

How about going crazy because I am no where near as booked as I was last year. Then again LAST year I was half the price I am this year... Can you tell Im bothered?
I redid my website, blog, postcards. Bridal festivals, marketing other services like newborn photos, senior photos etc... Meetings with new brides, ads for more business. Im managing.
