I am hoping someone will have some insight, The color dodge tool is no longer working in PS for me. First, the color dodge function in the gradient tool went, then the color dodge setting with the paintbrush tool went TU. The program thinks its working, and adds lines into the history file as you use them. It just doesn't do anything. These are flattened, single layer images here.
I reinstalled PS and downloaded the current updates to no avail.
Anyone have any idea what's going on? Not sure if I inadvertently changed something somewhere or what.
When tools misbehave and drive me nuts the cause is usually the fact I've set them to some mode other than normal for something else then forgot to change them back...
Yup, this sounds like pilot error to me too. I haven't a clue what it is tho - I mean it could be so many different things. The 1st thing that comes to mind is the tool mode - followed by mistaken layer selection, etc..
Thanks for the responses, though I've already ruled those out. I am working on a flattened image, and there are almost no tool settings for the gradient tool. I usually agree with you both on most problems, usually traces back to me. This one's a stumper.. I guess I'll call Adobe, probably a waste of time though.
On Macs manually deleting the preferences file [ users/your_name/library/preferences/com.adobe.Photoshop.plist for Photoshop ] will often clear up wonky behavior with Adobe apps.

Great suggestion!! That actually fixed the Color Dodge setting for the paint brush, but it still doesnt work for gradients. Thanks for that, at least 50% of my problem is fixed!
