Nobody will know about any of the ZF series until Zeiss announces them in ZE form. Which they've only done for the 50/1.4, 85 and 21.

I'd estimate very early 2009, but maybe that's because I'm looking for one.

I'm thinking 2010 seeming the Distagon 21 got delayed to 2nd half of 2009. I'm guessing this piece of glass will cost more than the ZF equivalent but under $2,000.

Makes you wonder whether you are better off using a 180L Macro.

Anyone got some more info on this ?
Any ETA on the Zeiss 100mm Makro planar in ZE mount ?

I have it in ZF mount, and I'd really like to skip the adapter...

I was at a regional fotoshow last weekend. There was also a Zeiss stand, and the rep told me that the ZE Makro-Planar 2,0/50mm will be announced on december 4th and will be available in early 2010 while the ZE Makro-Planar 2,0/100mm should be available mid 2010.

Because I have several Zeiss lenses, and I think the ZE ones perform better than the ZF ones...and I suspect this is due to the adapter. ( I have good adapters. Cost me 150 usd a piece )

And because step down metering / focusing is fine for shooting on a tripod, but AT TIMES a bit slow when shooting handheld at moving targets.

ZE perform better than the ZF? WOW! I must admit I never heard of that. Have you tried your ZF on a comparable Nikon DSLR?

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

I have not done any side by side comparison between ZF and ZE lenses. My ZF lenses are different focal lengths than my ZEs etc...I have bought ZF lenses and strapped an adapter on them just because I couldn't wait for them to be released in ZE mount..

I have tried my Distagon 21/2.8 ZF on a D80, and it seemed to me a tad sharper than when fitted with an adapter on my 5D mkii...but that is just the crop factor of the D80 I think...So, no testing on a comparable Nikon DSLR.

Soo...I think maybe its not the performance of the ZF lenses as such, but rather the ease of use with the ZEs that causes them to "perform" better.

Sorry for blabbering on without thinking it through....but I still want all my ZF's in ZE mount though

Id be really interested in the Carl Zeiss 180mm f2.8 in the ZE mount , will it be something that will happen ? only Zeiss company would know.

There is no current Carl Zeiss 180mm f2.8 lens in ZF or ZE mount. There is a 20-30 year old design in the Contax/Yashica mount, but I'm not sure that's the one you would particularly interested in.

Yeah, I was thinking that the ZE 50/2 MP would be out first before the ZE 100/2 MP.
Thanks for the estimated release dates!
Really looking forward to the ZE 50/2 MP.

If you have an APS camera you can get a Tamron 60/2 right now. Not only that but you can have 1:1 and AF to boot.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

My info from Zeiss Germany is that all lenses in ZF (Nikon) format will be released in ZE form in 2009, with the last one being the 100 makro, to be shipped in early 2010. Since then, they have delayed the 25mm in ZF.2 format, because of "rework", so I wouldn't count on that.
But if you measure the speed of recent new product introduction (ZEs and ZF.2s), my guess is that it can't be that far off...

they are running out of time if your "info" is correct - 2010 is almost here

I agree. I doubt that it will actually happen on schedule, and that they will ship 50 Makro Planar in 2009.

Two Makro Planars are the only lenses left.
Distagon 2,8/25 is being reworked on and 3.5/18 should be here any day now.
So yes, they are late, but to give them credit they released 4 lenses in last 2 months.
