Nice shot Greg, I have to ask this question I have been seeing more and more people using a high ISO with using a 2.8 lens and the speed you are shooting would you have to use a ISO so high couldn't the same affect be with just a higher F/stop , I guess I will have to try it out to see the affect on something to see the difference. I just hate using so high and ISO unless I'm doing my Nascar photo's were I don't have a choice.
Like the shot, appropriate and even funny without the title.
Norm's question occurred to me too, because at least for me, when a shot is this close, I try to support the camera on something to enable an accurate composition (let alone control camera shake). Once I'm on a tripod, bean bag, or a wad of clothing, I can usually avoid the question of how fast a shutter I need to neutralize my tremors and what would be the ideal trade off between motion blur and high ISO softening.
I don't mean to sound critical, since you may have had perfectly good reasons for your choice. Just curious. I sometimes forget to check my settings, and shoot at an ISO I didn't intend (or aperture, or shutter speed, or almost anything else). At least I can't forget to load film anymore!
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the nice comments. About the ISO...two answers really 1) I'm a dork and 2) grainy shots can be cool. To elaborate, I was doing some low light portrait stuff (what I like to shoot, portrait...) and had dialed the ISO up. Saw this theme, stepped on a lego an hour later (I have a seven year old son, I step on a lot of legos) when the idea struck me. I set it up, and had a heck of a time getting the lighting right until I remembered the ISO setting (the dork part), but the grainy-ness combined with the shallow DOF seemed cool, so I left it alone. In fact, as I was shooting it I was thinking of adding a noise layer in PS, this way I didn't have to.
Simple as that....and yes, no film to load...but everyday I am more re-drawn to the film body.... I wonder if things will come full circle at some point.
a round film cannister contrasted against a square CF card would be a cool take on this weeks' theme. Hmmmm....back to the drawing board

This is a great idea and it is good to hear about your inspiration for the shot. I like the high ISO approach you have used. I agree with you that the slight graininess adds character to the shot. Good luck this week.
