p.1 #1 · Fall-ing Structure

Hi Folks:

A short series of a place I discovered while driving around looking to photograph Autumn colors. The place is gorgeous in color, but I felt compelled to do these conversions. I'll try to get them out in color also, as well as in a highly desaturated version, but short of monotone.

Mostly, this place was just very intriguing, and visually interesting. There was a lonely, abandoned, and left to crumble feeling to it. As if it was falling along with the Autumn leaves. Slowly, over a long period of time, going on in a perpetual Autumn. Inside the structure was this basketball hoop and stand, and wooden boards covered with leaves.

As always, any thoughts greatly appreciated. This is truly an exploration as I am not good at architectural stuff.

I really appreciate that you gave us a couple of views of the b-ball hoop. It appears from shot #4 that it's quite close to the walls. It makes me wonder about the history of this spot. I mean, really, it makes no sense. What happened historically in this spot that a hoop was put up with essentially no room around it in which to play? Or was it the other way around, with walls put up around the hoop? Also, what about the ceiling? Did it ever exist, and if so, how high?
Interesting...

Thanks T-Bone! I'll try to find out more, this was tucked near a private entrance, but I really would love to find out more info.

Thanks,

Wonderful series. Without seeing the color, I cant imagine that is as powerful as these excellent BW conversions.
Thanks!

p.1 #5 · Fall-ing Structure

Hi,

It looks to me like a "portable" goal that was just moved into the area, not a "permanent" goal for playing in the location it is in now.

My favorite of the set is the #1 image.

However, it appears the "net" area has been "dodged" or "lightened" in PP. That creates a "photoshopped" effect (at least to this old photographer). I would prefer to see it "completely natural." The backboard itself is light enough and visible enough and recognizable enough to say "goal" immediately.

I hope these comments help you.

A quite beautiful and moody, perhaps nostalgic, series, Nacho. I believe the first two shots are a bit above the rest, they are less self-explanatory, show less and retain more mystery.

Hey Folks, thanks for the feedback and the thoughts. I will look at that first one, my dodging went out of hand there. Glad you liked these images. I will go back and see if there are more clues to the mystery of that basketball goal!

Best, and thanks again,

N

Great framing in all of these images. I feel like I have stepped into another world.
