I have the HP tx1119us and the screen stopped working.
OK… before I send it to HP to get it repaired I want to transfer the data from my laptop desktop. I understand there is an adapter for hard drives; so I can take out my hard drive attached the adapter and transfer to another computer.
Something like this http://www.vantecusa.com/front/product/view_detail/229 if it is a 2.5" drive. The Vantec stuff is pretty good and is relatively cheap, the biggest thing will be getting your laptop apart to do it.
I took the hardrive out... NOW I need an adapter I could hook it up too and place the DATA on my other computer. I'm sure someone makes one. I just need tp know who... I'll check out Belkin, but it has to be HD to USB/// and DARK I'll look in vantec.. Thanks!
A simple USB 2.0 notebook drive enclosure (as mentioned above) would be fine. However, if only the internal display were involved I would use an external display and copy the data off without removing the hard drive.
You might try a "Cables To Go" "USB 2.0 to IDE or SATA Drive Adaptor" kit , MODEL # 30504, which includes cables with plugs to jump just about anything in drives to a USB port, including 2.5"/3.5"/5.25"/IDE/ATAPI or Serial ATA drives. I got one on sale a while ago & it has worked quite well in my varied uses.
You could try to boot your computer with an external monitor attached. If you can get it booted up, you could transfer your data to an external drive.
I definitely would not trust them to preserve your hard drive. They will probably just swap out the complete computer.
Since you have already pulled the hard drive, I would get a Rosewill SATA or IDE 3-in-1 to USB2.0 Cable Converter Adapter. Model No. RCW608. I bought my adapter from newegg.com for $19.99 (I'm assuming you have another computer to work with that has usb ports)
