I agree with Bill, but everyone does some type of manipulation to their photo's even me, maybe there should be an assignment for this type of work also. Either way I like the way you did it.

Endre, the leaping cat only makes up about 10% of the image....the rest is all photoshop. The gradient is photoshop...the stars, and much of the moon...all photoshop, the water with reflection...a plugin. Sure, photography is to make a 2D version of what you see in your minds eye, but these assignments have a bit of a bias towards the straight capture view - versus the whatever it takes view. In my heart of hearts I feel like I crossed the line in the intent of the assignment rules. I took a fair image and elevated it to good with lots of PP. Not very good, nor excellent. For that, the leaping cat would have to be much better lit...like I did with Ciara in the umbrella shot. I like the image, but I think I can do better.

Don't replace it, Jim, my friend! This is such a work of art! All that is PS is the background while it's the photo of the leaping cat that is the real focus of the piece. Bravo!

While you are in a mood of contrition, though, could you reveal how you did the background?

Fond regards,

Endre

I'm uncomfortable with all this praise. I know Fred allows composites, but this one tips the scale a bit too much into making my minds eye vision via software instead of a camera - IMO. I started with a fair photo (not even good really)...Ciara's leap - and then made it into what I wished it had been. I will be replacing this image, because I know Fred wants the kind of image that is more a straight capture than what I did here. I'm thankful for all the wonderful comments, but my integrity is bothering me about how

I salute your integrity. In contrast to others I say: Go where your heart tells you to.

It's a beautiful composition and each element is wonderfully shot, James! I think Endre did a composite with his violin and nobody seemed to have a problem with that. Being a graphic designer myself I do a lot of composite and manipulation for my work, but I enjoy the challenge of seeing what I can do with just a photo and as little adjustment as possible. I do think it would be great if Fred had a definitive "digital art" MA or WA where people could rock out and do some wildly wonderful stuff like they do on Worth2000. Anyway, it's lovely!!!!

Ok James, between you, Vipermike and David N...I am having a hard time with just entering "cute" shots. I love the creativity I see here...Good luck!!

Hi James,

Lovely lighting and Ciara's eyes are quite amazing. I really like the novel angle you chose for this shot. Beautiful work.

Best wishes,

Steve S.

This one is a stunning shot as well. The lighting, the posture, the texture, the lot. I only wish you'd go one step back and catch her whole body.

And again, I admire your personal integrity.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

I like both of your shots JM but glad you decided on a less software created shot.

Wonderful shot. The lighting is purrfect as is the composition... oh, and the cat is divine.
