p.1 #1 · 85 f/1.2L vs. 85 f/1.2L II

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum, and learning a lot from the experts already!

Has anyone owned both of these and can talk a little bit about the improvements the II has over the older one?

TIA

I had the old and now have the new. The AF is a little faster but still pretty darn slow. Images with either are very similar...meaning excellent. The build quality is the same, again, meaning excellent. I do like the faster AF for some things...like I shoot theatre a bit and even tho still slow to focus, the difference is useful to me. Otherwise, the old one is just fine.

No problem. The search function here used to be lacking, but I've lately found that it's quite good (maybe it's just me!). And do post again if you still have questions after reading those threads.

It's also worth combing the reviews of these two lenses in the Reviews section of this site, although after awhile the "Pros" and "Cons" get pretty repetitious.

Finally, there are the comparisons at the-digital-picture, should you wonder if there's any optical difference (mouse over chart for II, change f-stop as desired):
