Most of the close up shots of single riders were with a wide angle lens and he was very close to the subject. He also said you need a much higher shutter speed when shooting physically close with a wide angle lens than you would for the same subject with say a 200mm lens and standing further away.
I tend to think if the motorcycle rider is filling the frame then shutter speed wouldn't vary much. Obviously when close to the rider his angular velocity is much higher than further away but that longer telephoto lens has a narrower field of view.
Is there a consensus among sports shooters about needing a higher shutter speed with a wide angle lens over a longer telephoto?
