I guess the pressure is on me this week, as my entry for last week's "My Work" theme seems to be doing well in the rankings...so far. At the risk of sounding like a politician, I sincerely thank all those that have voted for me for their support.

I was perplexed on what to shoot for "Simplicity". I could have come up with a minimalist image of something or other, but knew the competition would be very strong of such, so I started mulling over this alternative take on the theme the last couple of days while away at work. The idea being that once learned, riding a bike is as simple as...well, riding a bike. I know the lamppost is a distraction, but I included it because as Jessica learned to ride without the training wheels she suffered from the common fixation problem many children have steering straight into mailboxes, street signs and lampposts. A lot less PS work in this shot too this week...

Love those training wheels in the foreground.
And the fog really helps to obscure the background.
Good thinking, and nice shot!

How else would they stop the bike?

Cool shooting BTW.

Excellent idea. A bit more sharpness would be welcomed IMHO.

Happy shooting,

Thanks everyone, the comments are much appreciated!

Yakim, afterwards I was wondering if I should have had more depth of field so Jessica on her bike were sharper. This was shot at f5.6 with focus on the training wheels, my though at the time being that as she was riding away and more out of reach, leaving the focal plane slightly helped suggest that growing distance - sort of representing the child that grows up & learns to ride a bike, grows more independent, runs away and elopes with a rock band drummer, etc...

Cheers,
David
