After going back and forth with the shot, I decided to post this one and see what you all think as to which one is better...I got a new pitcher set today and for some reason, I "simply" wanted some grape Koolaid mixed with some Fresca! Put the two together and poured away for a very simple but refreshing drink.

Hope you enjoy

Lovely shot, Steve, my friend! Some people don't find flowers to be simple things, but if you remember, I entered a shot of a flower the last time this was the topic. I usually don't like shallow DOf but in this case it works well and I particularly like how the blurred cuts of the crystal show up. My only little critique might be that the base of the vase is slightly cut off at the bottom which tends to draw my eyes out of the frame. It's a small thing that you could probably fix easily. Anyway, it's a really nice shot.

Warm best wishes,

Endre

I'm glad your back shooting again Steve. I enjoy watching your work progress. The strength of your subject is good with the use of "simple" white surroundings. Love your reference to "not needing a dozen to make it shine".

Thanks so much Endre. You know how I feel about your comments. I agree with you completely with the bottom edge and new it when I shot it? Just didn't think I would use this particular shot but it ended up being the best pick. I could possibly reshoot and try to fix it or should I? Anyhow, Glad you like it

Thanks Mike. I do feel that I am getting a little better. Mainly in subject matter. I give lots of thanks to you for that. I am glad I can be back shooting now. I did really miss it.

Nice. I really like off-center focus (near the edges even) like this, but the sparkles on the glass bother me a little ... that is where my eye keeps going. I'm not sure the solution (absent a polarizer maybe, during the shot). But I do like the simplicity of it.

Great job Steve. I actually happen to like the out of focus sparkles and think they balance out well with the portion of the flower that is in focus. I like your take on the assignment this week. Nice and simple and good use of DOF.

Thanks Carolyn. I am sorry you don't like the sparkle. Not sure what I can do with it either outside of a re-shoot. I may try that again, but not sure if I can get the same lighting etc etc. Thanks for looking

Jon, goes to show that its all a matter of opinion and preference. Glad you like it because I think it turned out pretty decent

Steve,

Like your choice of DOF. I really think it focuses the viewer on the single flower. Great idea and nicely excuted. Good Luck.

Thanks Karen. I always appreciate your comments. So strong of entries that I am actually considering working on something else. I do like this this shot, but we shall see.. Thanks again.

This shot is stronger than the flower IMHO, Steve. My oldest daughter exclaimed when she saw it, "Wow! That really makes me want to get something to drink!" As you know, I liked the flower a lot but I still like this better. I particularly like the subtle beads of condensation on the side of the glass. Nice!

I have to agree with you. As much as I to liked the flower and the edits ;0 I think this one has a bit more punch to it (no pun intended) Not to mention, there has been some serious shots posted over the past couple of days. Ironically when I did this one and posted, out came that fantastic shot with the wine glass!! Literally within the same 5 minutes.....His is so much better, but I tried.....I have the flower as a back up for something I am using here at home so thanks for the tips.

As usual, thanks for stoppin by

Simple is an amazingly tough concept to nail down. I personally thought of dozens of shots. You did well and it definately conveys "simple"

Good entry,
Chad
