I would favor the portrait over the landscape composition, as it has a more easy-going (spontanous) flow to it (especially considering the river) and the butte with the pink bushes (FG) has a lighter and more balanced (or less intrusive) presence, competing less with other elements in view. As Jim mention, there is a painterly quality here, both in terms of light and colors. I prefer the more saturated N° 1 over the next.
I find the dead twig in the LL corner of the first to be a distraction, so I prefer the composition of the second picture. I agree with floris that the processing in the first picture looks better. So if you processed the second the same way, that would be my clear favorite. Lovely scene!
