Nothing technically spectecular here but I didn't know this fact about the American Coot
"...Although it swims like a duck, the American Coot does not have webbed feet like a duck. Instead of having all the toes connected by webs, each coot toe has lobes on the sides of each segment."
1. This is usually how I see them, in water so I was never able to see the webbed feet.
2. I saw one on grass and tried to get a bit close to him but he started to run to the water. Check out the cool webbed feet.

They do indeed have silly looking feet! Green at that. They are also not ducks, that's why their feet don't look like duck feet. Love the Groucho pose in 3!
I was just as surprised as you were when I 1st discovered coots foots. I knew they were queer looking ducks but the foots took me totally by surprise. I think they are kewl and you captured some great shot of them coots feets

I am glad you like #3 as well. Thanks for the picture and the comments. Is that a different kind of coot? It has more colors to it. I actually freaked out when I first saw their "bizzard" feet as Karl put it.

my coot is a chick - - but that's an American coot, only very small.
It would seem they're very colorful, at least parts of them, while they're young. Here are two slightly older chicks (about 1/3 larger) with their mom...

Not in Europe! they always seem to try hard but only manage to lift about 3 feet and then land again exhausted
I see the US version can fly better...they're on steroids or something
