I agree with Daan B,. why is imagemaster getting so defensive about his camera ? If it worked fine for him, good for him, kudos. But heck, clearly, there are other beta users who can repro the bug consistently. I would get ticked if I had spent $1500 for a new camera. Daan B has a point where he can show his frustration, cos his camera has a fault. Not sure why the Master is getting all worked up....
Do you actually know what you are talking about, or are you just related to Daan B?
He does not own a 50D and is just mouthing off about something he does not have first-hand experience with. Guess you could say he is a bit offensive, eh? Daan B is probably frustrated because he DOES NOT own a 50D.
1. The master thread on the 50D has one complaint about err99. Wow, that is sure a lot considering the thousands already sold and this being one of the major photo forums.
2. This thread has a total of 5 people complaining about err99. One had it happen once, then says he had 4 lens lock-ups and 1 camera lock-up, whatever he means. Three had it happen one time and one of those was when using an old re-chipped Sigma lens. And one had it happen twice. And not one single person has proved it was a result of faulty contacts in the camera. Why is that
3. Wow, sounds like a pretty small percentage to me. None of those bothered to say if their camera has firmware 1.0.2.
4. Guess what? Canon sells this camera with a warranty. If there is a problem, they fix it.
Wake up. It is a problem with a few cameras, and Canon fixes it.

Thruth of the matter is that there are many reports (while at first there were only some) of 50D owners reporting err99's. As a customer I really don't care what is causing this (I am not going to defend the "rumor" either). I am concerned about it though. An error is an error, whatever the cause... On top of that there is already a FW update... What is that all about? I think I have a right to be critical... Canon expects me to pay some good (and well earned) money for their products.
Why don't you list these MANY reports along with the total number of 50D's sold so far, then we can see what a BIG percentage this is? Already a firmware update, my, my, isn't that terrible. Firmware updates are a common procedure with DSLR's, just as software updates are a common procedure with computers. What world are you living in?
But I feel sorry for all those people who have bought a brand new 50D (and paid the grand price for it) and have gotten err99's. It is very disappointing to read about it.
Again, ALL those people. It must be thousands, eh? I bet they all got warranties. Very disappointing.
This err99 "issue", some other considerations, and the fact that the official ACR 4.6 release doesn't do a better job at noise conversions than ACR 4.6 beta/RC, is making me cancel my 50D purchase. And nothing you scream at me is going to change my mind about that
I could care less if you purchase one. And Canon is selling them like hotcakes because most people know it is a good camera backed by a good company.
BTW I have never seen anyone getting so defensive over a piece of equipment... Relax man, there are more important things in life
BTW, I have never seen anyone getting so offensive about a piece of equipment they don't own and have no first-hand experience with. You sound like an argumentative Troll.

May I suggest you 50D "Naysayers", who don't actually own the camera, go over to DPR where this rumor was started and whine with the rest.
If you own the 50D and are having problems with it feel free to share your experience with others so it can be legitimately discussed.

Watch your heart now... You are about to explode dude
I have had my 50D since Thursday evening... Shot about 300 or so frames in all focus modes, RAW, JPG, etc.. So far, so good. Not quite as impressed with the high ISO as I was hoping (haven't tried DPP yet.. only ACR 4.6 beta)..FW 1.0.1....but overall I think I am going to like it. Now I have to go knock on some wood.

Some guy on DPR talked to a Canon service rep who" confesses all this technical info" to him so as not to loose him as a customer? DPR? lol

file a beta bug, guys.
Does Canon have a searchable knowledge base? I searched for this on the canonusa site and did not find anything. Where do you file bugs? I sent a message about the error 99 and firmware differences to customer support. Their reply was basically "we don't have any information."

Why is it that we are so complacent with things like this. Instead, we should be letting Canon know this is unacceptable. Just imagine telling the bride that you missed the famous kiss because your camera locked up. Canon will not do a thing about this if we all think this type of function is just par for the course.
Maybe everyone having a problem should email customer support? Maybe if they get enough of them they will do something?
