p.1 #1 · The Waco Bi-Plane

I was at the Cape Cod Soaring airstrip taking photos of a Beechcraft being rehabbed when I also noticed this beauty of a Bi-Plane out in the field. She was a shinny red in color and looked perfect in every way so I ask the guys in the hanger if they mined if I took a few photos of her. I took these photos and than contacted the Waco manufacturer to ask about this plane (photos included) and the lady below was kind enough to send me this info. (http://www.wacoclassic.com/ )
Lou
Dear Lou,
That plane is WACO YMF-5, serial #16, built by WACO Classic in 1988. It's not a replica, it's a new production aircraft that we manufacture under the 1930's type certificate. So, it's a wood and fabric aircraft just like they flew in the 1930's, but with all the modern features - brakes, avionics, etc. - of today's planes. The blending of the old and new is our specialty!
You should stop by to see one in person, if you get the chance. We attend numerous air shows during the year, or you're welcome to come to the factory if you ever get to Michigan.

Thanks for writing!

Isen't she a beauty Steady Hand Did you try clicking on the web link I placed above and you can make a contact with them. Meantime the next time I'm at the air strip (want to get her taking off with 700MM and a tripod from the very end of the field. Want to try those SS settings that were posted earlier where you could see the prop blur and I think they were 1/250 and should be no problem with a sky as a BG as she goes up so can use a great f stop and low ISO. Meantime I think I will ask the lady my self as to their cost of a new one. Thanks

What, no GPS? and 3-axis autopilot?

Just exquisite! What a great find, and superbly executed.

Hey Tony I thank you and that find is about 20 minuets away from me so I will be going back. As for the GPS that you have to go to Best Buy for, its extra.

Thanks Glen and really even though they give rides in the Waco it is used mostly for gliders and soaring in them. Now here is a little quote for you written in 1911 and most likely directed to man,
Quote
“But you were never made as I, / on the wings of the winds to fly! / The eagle said.”

Poet Will Carleton (1911)

Not sure if they had gliders back than but watching the eagle is a good way to learn as I am an eagle man. www.loubuscher.com

I have one of these, in quarter scale, painted in red on Stitz fabric. She will do inverted flat spins, until your hands get too sweaty to hold the transmitter. She also has smoke and flying wires. The fun, was carving the wheel pants, they are not symetrical.

Super photos of a super aircraft. A friend of mine has a Cessna 195 that has a Jake engine. The sound of a Jake is music to the ears.
