p.1 #1 · Sold: 200 1.8 - $3,000

I bought this lens from a chap in Korea (who apparently is very reputable) and have shot less than 20 pictures with it. (Make that 40 now, see below!)

I would be happy to post as many pictures as required for any interested party.

Price: $3,000.00 cash/money order or pay pal plus shipping & insurance.
I will Fed Ex to only confirmed addresses if using pay pal.

I have just noticed that I have a New Canon 48mm Polarized Filter which I can include with the sale (Free of charge)

A fellow FM Member asked me to take some pictures with the lens wide open, so I took these pictures of our eldest about to go to her homecoming.

I believe that when the original seller had it listed on eBay, it was rated 9/10.
I believe from the serial number that the lens was produced in 1996. The serial number is: 15258 and the code on the lens seating is: UX (or K) 0817.

I have many other 'L' lens that I will be posting for sale in due time and all of those lens where bought brand new. In comparison to those lens, this lens obviously looks like it is 12 years old, although not in as good a condition as the newer lens it is in remarkable shape for it's age!

I would welcome any inspection to evaluate the condition of this lens. I am not an expert photographer and what looks great to me could be totally different to another eye.

I had one of these and sold it for more. This IMO is canon's sharpest and fastest lens they make period!! I switched to Nikon and bought the D3 w/ 400 2.8VR & 200 f/2 VR. I also tried out the canon f/2 and let me tell you, nothing in its class can beat it and its worth every penny.

Maybe he's thinking of ChamCamera in South Korea?
Likely the most reputable source of quality 200 f/1.8 glass anywhere.

Or for the younger generation "Dude"
Funny how slang evolves differently among countries and regions speaking the same language.

Good luck with your sale.

Canon gives out a list on approved independent repair centers that can service this lens. If memory serves, there are around 20 repair centers on the list throughout the states; well, at least there are 15 of them .

Mid-State Camera in Rhode Island will service this lens.
When I first bought this lens, there was a problem with the electrical contacts. The seller, ChamCamera, to his credit, offered to pay for the repair. I sent the lens to Mid-State and they were great, they identified the problem, repaired for a very reasonable amount and checked out the lens completely. The seller repaid me the cost of the repair and the lens is now in as good a condition that could be expected for a 12 year old lens.

If I remember correctly, it was in the region of $300.00. Then there was the shipping costs on top of that. I will try and find the receipt.

It's not so much the skills and people to repair them, as finding the parts (if needed).
