I've been thinking this weekend what with all the histeria surroundin the new 5DII but I think I'll put the money into lenses that can resolve my 3 year old 5D first. I'm still not happy with my 28's - the CZ is let down in the corners and although the OL 28 3.5 is better it has issues with flare. I think the only solution is a Lieca 28mm ROM. My CZ 50 has exceptional sharpness right across the frame but the Bokeh is horrid wide open. I'm again thinking a 50mm Leica Summicron will be the answer ( already regreting selling my early version). I'm happy with my 70-200L 2.8 and Leica 135 2.8 for the long stuff and the OL35mm for mid wide shift but the 24 TS-E is a big let down ( corners when shifted) and Canon MUST have a replacement in the works surley. Also I was not too impressed with the 16-35L II although the possibility of a MKIII is a long shot IMO. I'm sure the 5D II will be a fantastic camera but I just don't need extra pixels when I don't have lenses that can resolve my existing ones.
I'm not either. Not for quite some time, anyway. Regardless of how much I want it, I simply cannot justify the expenditure when my 5D does exactly what I need and could do much more.
I'm much more likely to end up with another 5D (wow, they're getting cheap!). Shooting with two of the same camera has some big advantages for my wife and I.
One lens you might want to consider as a 'normal' R unit with nice bokeh is the 60 Macro - sharp as hell and smooth bokeh - but costs you a stop.
BTW - same here on 5DII. use 1Ds2 now, may even drop-down to a used 5D. getting tired of being chased by the depreciation dragon - want to focus on glass. When I have a stable that mets or beats 12-16MP FF, I'll consider a used ____.
The 5DII will likely be the body with which I transition to full frame. In 3-5 years, when I can buy one used for about $1000-$1500. Honestly, my 30D does so well for 99% of what I shoot, so for me...there's not much incentive to upgrade. I'd like a cleaner ISO 3200, and a usable ISO 6400, but that only crops up from time to time. My glass is fast enough in most cases that it's not an issue for what I shoot. I only print to 10x15" most of the time, with the rare 12x18, 16x20 and I've done one 20x30....and it looks great, and it's from an original Digital Rebel.
So, until my 30D breaks, or I'm making a lot more money, full frame will have to wait.
That said, if I had the funds, the 5DII would already be on pre-order...it looks awesome.
I'm on the fence with the 5DII, especially when its being released so close to the holidays. I may wait until after the first of the year once the 'beta testers' have given it a go, or wait until Canon has a few rebates available.
Can't think of any compelling reason to change from the 5D either.
If I wanted more megapixels, I would be thinking in terms of an 'affordable' digital equivalent of a 4X5 (with movements) ... and I can't see that happening any time soon.
I am dissapointed now it seems there is not going to be be a glut of used 5D's means the price for those wont drop in a hurry, I was hoping to pick one up at a good price.
The 5DII is not for me like some already said you would have to look for better glass
as well and who needs video.
There is always next year and the updated 5DII in the mean time my 40D works just fine.
I still think I'm getting one. I've been thinking about getting an used 1d3 or even an used 1ds mark III, beacause i want more secure af and more weather (read: beer :P) sealing for concerts, but I guess I'll end up with the 5d mkII.
I did have some sellers remorse when I sold my 5D.
But now, I plan to sell off all my remaining EF mount and alternative glass and stick with Nikon and Olympus.
Canon just does not hold the appeal it once did. Why bother when you can get better image quality from Olympus or Nikon. It would matter if I was stuck at ISO 1600-ISO3200 all the time... but I am not ...as I seldom shoot over ISO 800. And the D700 offers me what I need.
Just in case I feel like going back to Canon so I may use some of my alternative gear on Canon full frame (instead of on the Olympus E3), my price point is now set to $1000 or less for a good condition 5D and I am hoping that happens soon.
Just don't feel like I need 21MP or the video capability the 5D Mk II offers.

The 5DII looks awesome but the additional features would probably be wasted on me.
12.8MP is just right for my printing, cropping and lenses, and I know I'm not interested enough in video to set up appropriate hardware & software and most importantly, learn how to shoot & edit it properly. As for the LCD I only use it for checking exposure and deleting, so no real benefit there either. High ISO is probably the only thing to tempt me. Maybe later.
I think very interesting times are upon us in the FF and MF market and, frankly, I don't know which way to go at the moment. I sold my 5D just before the release of the 5DII so I would be able to get top dollar for it which I did. Now I wish I hadn't almost. I can't bring myself to buy the new 5DII and I'm still debating on the Sony A900. What is also starting to occur to me is that there are about to be a whole lot of relatively inexpensive, used MF backs on the market. Hasselblad has just dramatically reduced their new prices which will put great pressure on the other players in MF land as well as on the price of used MF digital backs. I foresee used 22MP digital backs soon hitting the 3K price point and that is something I'm very interested in. So, should I pick up an inexpensive, 12MP APS size DSLR for the time being and wait a few months for the market to shake things out, repurchase another 5D at a better price, wait on Nikon's answer to the 5DII or jump on the Sony train? I'm currently using my back up camera, an Olympus 330 plus my Hasselblad 500CM, but really must get something better soon, digitally at least. What to do!
Not sure I need the video, so I'll just consider it a freebee to play with. I could use the higher MP and the better LCD is a benefit. Modest improvements/refinements in a few areas are welcome.
However, I am also considering the Sony alpha 900. I'll wait for 6 months to get a chance to handle both, and see how all comparative analysis shakes out and what sort of consensus emerges. The a900 body has a lot of the attractive attributes but there are still questions about IQ -- noise in particular. So, 6 months from now I'll probably be buying either the 5DMkII or the a900. Just not sure which yet.

I am planning on getting one next Spring as long as the reports seem good. For me it will be very nice to move to full frame. I am pretty sure I will like my Rokkor 58mm f/1.2 even more on full frame and I also shoot some wildlife and sports so the extra pixel density basically means I won't lose any of the reach I have with my current 20D. I think I will even have use for the video.
I would buy the 5D-MK2 when either one or more event below happened:
a) my current 5D turn dead.
b) my son wanted it with a reasonable price (family discount
c) 5D-MK2 drop below $1700
d) I bought all of the L-lens that I needed/wanted
e) I returned to the bad habit "gear-porn"
Heck, I`m thinking about an XSi because a 5D would cost me 3000 USD here in Brazil

Good condition, used 5D's are now going for $1300-1400 on ebay right now. Perhaps you could get someone to ship to Brazil.
I have found Live View to be very helpful on my Olympus E330 when using Alt lenses but I think part of this has to do with the tiltable LCD. The 5D has a much better viewfinder so I'm not sure how much better Live View will be for MF. It actually might be awkward in use due to the lack of a tiltable LCD. If Canon had given the 5DII a tiltable LCD screen, it would have been much more useful for professionals then video in my opinion.
I've got the 1Ds2 and I'm very happy with the files. Besides, let's see how many lenses will work on the 5D2, if the body is similar to the first model. I'm sure we'll see similar compatibility problems, which was the reason why I sold my new 5D at loss and bought a used 1Ds2. So no 5D2 for me, next upgrade is 1Ds3N or 1Ds4. The question will rather be, to ZE or not to ZE.
Also I'm very seriously considering to add an A900 to my existing Canon/Contax equipment just to be able to use the ZA 24-70 and 16-35, and of course the 135mm.
Hmmm, I'm hoping somebody on Board55 will pick up a 5DII so we can see how it performs with alt glass (for those interested in catering to my needs, I'm particularly interested in using it with my CZ 35-70, OM 50/1.2, and OM 24/2.8...).
Seriously, I have been contemplating a move to full frame for a couple of years. (Come December, I will have had my 20D for 4 years.) I've thought about picking up a used 5D, and I still might do that because the prices are getting pretty attractive. But I was holding out because I see some (potential) advantages to live view and 14-bit raw files; 21MP is definitely a draw -- it would give ample room for cropping, even though I don't usually print large. AF should be substantially better than my 20D (even the 5D would be an improvement, I think), but it doesn't matter that much because I focus manually most of the time. Video is intriguing -- by no means essential or even a primary draw, but something I would be interested to play with a bit to see if it overs creative potential.
I won't be buying one until after the new year -- wait for the early adopters to beta test, Adobe to add the camera to a Lightroom incremental update, and prices to come down just that first bit. But I'd like to get one before May, when I will be going to Chile, including Patagonia and the fjords. As I say, I may yet be convinced to pick up a 5D instead, but for now the specs of the new camera have me very interested...
First thing first about new 5DMKII from practical point of view
1.) Am I going to shave the mirror on this body?
2.) Do I have enough storage and memory for extra large files?
3.) Do I need a new computer system and software upgrade?
4.) Is the new 5D II going to have issues with metering, WB and AF related issues?
5.) How soon will it be stablized without any firmware upgrade?
From wanted list on the existing 5D
1.) LiveView... Yes
2.) low noise ISO 6400... Yes
3.) 21 mpix ... maybe yes
Can I live without things on the wanted list? Yes.
