p.1 #1 · need plastic cases for BP511 batteries

I'm looking for plastic boxes to hold single BP511 batteries for my xxD cameras. So far no luck finding them anywhere... I've got a couple of nice boxes that came with some of the first non-canon batteries I bought. They work well and TSA never questions them. They are stiff enough to provide a bit of protection and tough enough to prevent most things from getting thru and shorting the battery terminals.

But when I just bought some more batteries, they no longer come with these plastic boxes. Even calling around to different suppliers did not find batteries with the boxes any more. And searching with Google has not found me any of these small clam-shell boxes. But I did find a Chinese trading that sells BP511 batteries in the boxes. But but.. they are a big wholesale house ( so you can guess the volume needed) and they only list the boxes with batteries anyway.

So what do you all do with your extra batteries? I suppose "zip-lock" bags will work. But that's cumbersome and doesn't give the same protection as the plastic boxes do.

?? Does anybody have a source for these boxes?? Should I buy 2000 from China and sell them here?

Well, so far, I never managed to have plastic cases on all my batteries, for the reasons you mention, yet I never had a problem with TSA. Of course, I never store batteries in the same compartment as anything metallic. I put them in a zipped flat compartment of my bag (and I avoid having many batteries in the same compartment, even though I do not see how the contacts of two of these could be in direct contact, since their shape should prevent that).

Buy some Sucrets in the plastic box. Each will fit 2 BP-511 batteries perfectly.

Dcains,
Ok. I'll get some sucrets and try that. Thanks.

eos-m42guy,
They look like the cover plate that came with my original Canon battery. They seem to come off easily, unless you tape them on or use a velcor strap. And the one that I had got lost pretty quickly. But thanks for the link.

The original or third party covers that come with the BP-511 type batteries can be held on with several wraps of the right sized rubber band. It is fast on and off, stays put, is reusable, and does not leave any residue. For air transport, in addition to the cover and rubber band, I also put each battery in a small clear ziplock bag, just for another layer of protection. TSA can still see what it is if they want, and so can I.

Well SUCCESS, I can report the "Sucrets Boxes" do work for holding two BP511-512 batteries nicely. $3.99 each at CVS pharmacy and you get the lozengers too.

The batteries fit nicely and decently snuggly, but are still easy to get out. However the boxes do not seem to stay snapped shut very well. So I will be using rubber bands with them. They do seem to be flexible enough to survive withoiut cracking and tough enough to stop most things from poking thru. These were a good suggestion.

Thanks for the responses.

The Sucrets boxes do indeed work perfectly for the BP511 batteries.

I searched the web and found a link to the marketing department of the company that makes them and sent them a request for some empty boxes.

A few days later I got a response back asking how many I needed. They sent me exactly how many I requested and only had to pay the shipping.

I got a hard plastic box that holds a normal sized bar of bath soap and two BP511 batteries will fit in it. It will snap shut for a while and then the plastic snap either wears down or falls off. Paid $0.99 at a local pharmacy. Funny thing is I just noticed I too have a Sucrets throat lozenge box that I'd been using for loose change and small screws in my car.
Best,
AndyK

P.S. I normally have a few spare batteries in each camera bag and each is enclosed in a zip-lock bag.
