I wonder how many folks are going to buy this thing only to find they need to upgrade their computer to deal with the file size at 14 bits, not to mention the huge video files. I have an aging dual 2.7 GHz G5 that works adequately with 5D files. I'm pretty sure it's not going to like MkII files. I'll upgrade the computer first; maybe next year.
any problems canceling a pre order?
in UAE where i live 5D ll is coming in the beginning of November with low demand, so picking up one will be easy but the price tag is around $3500-3800. if i had to wait for online pre order for too long, i might pickup one from here even with that price, at least for the warranty.
thanks
I prefere to go to my dealer and test it first. I will not be able to purchase it before christmas time/new year anyway. So I will wait, just go to my dealer than and purchase it, when its in stock.
I'll never buy anything from Canon that's just off the press. First of all I'm not willing to pay the early bird premium. Second, it isn't rare that some technical issue shows after the first release.
That 5D2 is looking very good, but I am a big boy and can wait a little longer (and use my 5D in the main time...). So waiting 6 months isn't a problem, both in terms of price, ease of mind and available equipment. Probably benefit from a Cash Back promo as well (around April/May 2009).

As for the price, I am lending the manager of my local shop my MIII for three hours this weekend, and he is lowering the price 200 bucks, so I guess that premium price is not a issue
I had one ordered from a local shop, but canceled it. Shooting with a 21mp camera doesn't sound appealing. Storing, editing, and manipulating images this size will mean doubling my monthly storage capacity, and is going to slow down my batch processing and editing process. All for an increase in file size thats not really much of an advantage. Maybe I'll re-evaluate after seeing some reviews, but I doubt it.
For me the ability to also shoot video will increase sales to some of my commercial clients. The extra file size just means I will have to get another hard drive for some extra capacity. I will get one as soon as the first wave goes by. I want to hold it before I buy one.

The 5D Mk II is already obsolete. Canon is working on their 30+ sensors and Dual Digic V, etc, and they will be out sooner than you think!
Yes, and we all know that obsolete cameras are worthless. If you'd like I'll toss in $500 and you can ship your classic 5D my way so I can keep it as a collectible.
I am holding off until I see what actual users, not testers, are able to do with it. Also I am interested if the prints are going to be as smooth as those taken with the 5D or if they will be closer to what I get from the 20D. Both are good but the 5D images just shine a little brighter as far as smooth blending of tones are concerned.
The 5D serves me well now but I would like the additional resolution for macro and wildlife, BIF, taken with the 100-400L + 1.4X TC.
I preordered one camera and it is the last time I will do that!
The 5D will be a vintage camera before too long .... so I am going to hold on to mine!

I have sneaking suspicion the 5DMKII images aren't going to look a whole lot like they're from a 20D.
