Could not think of anything better for this week's assignment...meet the mystery photographer! Guess his name and win a prize...(j/k)

I forgot to add that C&C (good or bad ;-) is always welcome. My goal is to get better. This was the first time I tried a silhouette and I didn't think I did too badly (?) - but I'd love to hear what you all think. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to let me know... Thanks!

seechelle,

First off, nice capture. I think this one might benefit from a re-crop - I could do without seeing the torso and waist. Also maybe a slight shift of the subject to the lower left corner. Just my .02. Again, great work.

This is a very good silhouette against the bright blue sky, Chelle.
The reflection on the lens filter adds a nice touch…

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the suggestions...I will try to re-crop it tonight and see what I can do. I appreciate the feedback!

Jban,

I'm so glad you noticed the reflection...I am amazed at times how well photographers pick up on the little details. Thanks for commenting.

Nice shot, Chelle. The sky looks almost too good to be true and as John pointed out, the reflection on the filter is really nice. My biggest comment would be that if i did the same sort of shot, I'd try to get it to move more. How, you ask? By positioning your subject so that he is shooting into some space. Right now there is this big black blob of a photographer smack dead center of the shot which causes it to look very static and heavy. You're already going to get "heavy" due to the black silhouette. To overcome that, the next time you try something like this, try shooting a landscape frameing and having some negative space on the right (in this case) that he is shooting into. I think it would give much more interest to the composition. There are times, of course, when something dead center works best but in general having the subject even al little off center and allowing space for the viewer's imagination to move into the rest of the frame by following the line of their action makes better compositional sense. Very nice first attempt at a silhouette, though.

All the best,

Endre

Endre,

Thanks so much for taking the time to give me those good pointers. I so appreciate all 3 of you for giving me some feedback. My heart's desire is to become a better photographer. I love this forum. These assignments are like "peer reviewed" research (so to speak). There is so much to glean from one another's advice. I will definitely try to keep your suggestions in mind.

Tony, I tried to re-crop it...but I think it would have worked better if I'd had more in the frame (like Endre mentioned). I didn't have time for a re-shoot - *sigh*. I had fun, though!

Take Care,
Chelle
