Right, and I don't claim any insider knowledge because I don't have any.
However, I am quite sure this will turn out to be the EOS mount.
AFAIK about 40% of all DSLRs sold worldwide have the EOS mount, so it simply makes sense for Zeiss to address that huge market.
Yeah, I agree & actually I'd be interested in the possibility of using Zeiss lenses w/- an EOS mount.
Apparently they were misconstrued, but my earlier posts were simply trying to make clear that this is just speculation (or "wishful thinking"!) at this point. The Zeiss webpage link is just an inconclusive marketing tease. Though, as you & others have said, it makes sense that it *might* be an EOS mount ...
only one current ZA lens overlaps the ZF/ZS/ZK lenses. This would add seven more to the four already available. The sony lens stable is very thin right now, having Zeiss sell their lenses as ZA would help sell A900s, which is why I think they're making this announcement now.
the A900 will be the only full-frame SLR with built-in image stabilization, not to mention the top (for now) megapixel count. I can see a market there for both Sony and Zeiss.
A Zeiss ZE lens (i.e. Zeiss to EOS mount) without the electrical coupling to do auto-aperture would not be interesting to me personally. Why not just buy Zeiss ZF lenses and a Nikon D700 or D300 or Kodak F body and get full auto-aperture? You can already adapt Zeiss ZF lenses to EOS as long as you don't mind giving-up auto-aperture. I do mind. I'd rather use my Contax Zeiss C/Y lenses on EOS if I choose to give up auto-aperture since several of the Contax Zeiss C/Y lenses are as good or better than Zeiss ZF lenses at a lower price. So I hope Zeiss either goes all the way and does EOS with auto-aperture (ROM electrical contacts) or they don't even bother.
What bothers me I guess... is a bunch of micro companies in Taiwan can make and sell ROM electrical contacts for EOS auto-aperture for a few bucks and yet the mighty Zeiss can't pick up a few of these and mount them on their lenses Come on....

Sigh... from a marketing standpoint you may be on to something... The Sony Alpha series looks like something from Halloween with all the buttons in the worst places. What *were* they thinking? They need all the help from Zeiss they can get and they have all the money in the world to buy that help. But what I would really like is a true auto-aperture Zeiss solution on EOS. Otherwise it's Contax Zeiss C/Y on EOS or ZF or Nikon for me...
I'm not much for spreading rumors and God knows how long I'd be saving before I could purchase a Zeiss lens of any sort but the teaser image at http://www.zeiss.com/photo has been updated and now refers to "ZE" by name.

It doesn't. I believe the construction of ZE was, as it's OP admitted, purely wishful thinking.
It's in the banner, with an empty hole where a ZE lens should be, next to an ad that says something to the effect of "Want to know about ZE? Be the first to find out by signing up for our newsletter."
Which I did. I'm curious to see what fills that hole.
