But itīs so tiny it can stay in my bag as a "long lens" when I need more reach. My 105/1.8 or Nikkor 135/2 are too heavy for just being everyday bagfillers. I do use an Oly 135/2.8... but would like to try something else Will post images with the 2.5 if I shoot something I like with it, but you could be right...

Both the Nikkor 105/2.5 and 135/2.8 a small, light, sharp and cheap. Give them a try.

I have three 135s already, which I like all of them, but I find 105 to be more my length. Looking forward to trying the 105.

I can very much relate to the size/weight issue, which is why one of my "bagfillers" is the CV 125/2.5. I like to have a long portrait and a true macro with me, and I cannot imagine any two-lens combo that would compare to the CV regarding total size, total weight, and overall IQ at both 1:1 and portrait length.

Anyway, if anyone can impress me with the Nikkor 105, it will be you. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Canon 180L macro fits that criteria, except maybe for size/weight.

Hmm...

Far too long for portraits (for my needs), significantly slower, and $400 more than I paid for the CV. Also, something tells me the Canon doesn't have a 530 degree, ultra-smooth focus throw.

EDIT:
Wow, I didn't realize how big the 180L is: 83x187mm, 1090g

CV 125 is 76x88mm, 690g

Thats a pretty small package, for that much Apochromatic, uber-creamy-bokeh, CA-free, portrait and macro *punch*.

Granted the 180L is big, that's the weakest link. That and maybe full-rack focus speed (a non-issue in real use though). But it's stunningly sharp and a good 200mm replacement for many things. I have the 200/2.8L also but don't usually bring that unless I need to do fast action sports. the 180L is a nice replacement for the 200/2.8 in all other regards, plus does 1:1 macro w/o tubes. The built-in tripod collar is nice too.

For the 125mm distance I use the 135L usually, it's such a sweet one.

The 100/2.5 rokkor is I think later than the 100/2 rokkor, though they were both available at the same time for a short while. The 100/2 was a little more expensive.

I forgot that I have the rokkor 100 macro (3.5 I think), not the 2.5. Doh! >:-P It's a well made lens, will convert it soon. At the time it came out it was one of the highest-rated macros available for any camera mount.

If we're talking stealthy telephotos, Leica M Tele-Elmar 135/4.0 converted to EOS, 500g. and 105mm long, 59mm diameter, 39mm filter. F/4 is almost optimum, diffraction after f/5.6.

Hi all,
Just want to share a few rokkor 100mm f2.5 shots (MD rokkor-X, not MC). I've used it much more than my ef 100mm f2 recently. Also the very cheap MD Rokkor 135mm f3.5 which I, surprisingly, prefer over both the SMC Takumar 135mm f3.5 and f2.8.

MD Rokkor-x 100mm f2.5:

Why even mess with this lens when there is the arguably superior Nikkor 105/2.5 that needs no conversion, just cheap simple adapter and sells for close to $60 most places? From what I've seen the 58/1.2 on the 5D is very interesting conversion and worthy, but it seems a bit overboard to go hacking all of these old Minolta lenses up, just because they are Minolta lenses. I'd rather hack my arm off with a rusty spork than pay $600 for a Rokkor 100/2 or for that matter an OM 100/2. I've used both the Nikkor 105/1.8, which was nice,

Thanks for your opionion, twok, even though i didn't ask for it.

If you can show me how you convert a Nikkor 105/2.5 to Sony Alpha mount, I'll do that instead. I welcome you to hack your arm off too. If you read what I posted, I did not pay $600 for the 100/2 as I stated that I happen to already have a 100/2.5. I have no doubt that there are very much superior lenses on my native mount, but none for free, which is what I paid for mine.

anyways, thanks debuggerus for the samples. I've already shot a roll of film on the 100/2.5 this past weekend and am having it developed and printed this week.
