Me too, Samie. I also like the use of space. The stark quality of the lighting is reminiscent of some of the fashion photography out of the late 60's - early 70's.
Sorry I am getting around to commenting on this photo so late. I saw it some time ago and didn't have the chance, but I really love this one. I am just learning and this portrait is a real inspiration. I love the expressions and the contrast. It is a very simple, but emotional photo.
Sammie, I absolutely love this image! It evokes so many emotions that I do not have words for. This image is powerful and I speak here about the contrasting expressions of mother and child. Next, regarding composition: Not common to see a child positioned higher than an adult, and that combined with the angularity of the table. Very interesting! Last, regarding "that lovely grain texture." Well, my friend. You absolutely nailed that!
