Marshall Point Lighthouse from mid-coast Maine. Borrowed a friend's 50mm f1.4, and cos the light was quite flat on this morning, I used a Cokin filter to add a little color to the sky. Might have overdone it a little with the filter, but I liked how it came out compared to without. Feedback appreciated...
I too like the effect of the filter very much, Sam! I might warm up the bottom of the image just a tad. What a lovely composition and such soothing mood...awesome!
Mahesh and Sunny... thanks for the kind words. Coming from you guys it means a lot. I have been admiring both of your landscape photographs for a while now, and eagerley await new posts. This was the first time I had ever used a filter, and was afraid it might turn out cheesey. I would have loved for the lobster boat to have been coming from the other direction, but you take what you are given. This is the place that Forrest Gump runs to again, and again...
It's really a brilliant shot. I typically am not a big fan of lighthouse shots (flowers are my other area of extreme disinterest), but this is one is an exception. Just a magnificent capture, with a mysterious yet lovely colored background and the lighthouse appearing at the end of the pier... just wonderful.
Thanks to everyone for commenting on this photograph. I am getting addicted to this site... viewing others' work here and then the comments attached from peers is a great learning tool for me.
I've seen this photo somewhere before. Oh wait, I was there when you shot it!!! I like it. When we going shootin' again? We have to get out shootin' becuase once that new baby arrives you'll just want to take pictures of him/her. Not that it's a bad thing.
Very, very nice. The boat is the perfect touch! I don't think I would have used the filter in the field but would have added it in the lab later - perhaps gives more options.
Have you tried flipping the image? Sometimes a boat moving to the right has a better, more natural progression feel to it.
That's a great shot. Maine sure has some beautiful lighthouses. I had not seen that one before. One of these days, I'm going to photograph more of the Maine lighthouses. I've only done a few in the southern sections of Maine.
Thanks for posting the picture. I love it!

Thanks to everyone for their comments... wasn't sure how the filter would go over. It was the first (and to be honest I think the last) time that I have used one where I liked the outcome... other than a graduated ND filter.
