p.1 #2 · Changing color profile in Nikon Capture NX2
If you are using NX you should change the color space in the camera. It is a read the manual thing. You can also change this in NX, just don't accept the defaults. Unfortunately by opening the file in sRGB, that is the lowest common denominator and trying to change the image gamut won't work, you have already lost those colors. An sRGB image changed to aRGB will just be an sRGB image. This is the advantage in opening in a larger color space, then dropping to sRGB just truncates the colors space and will be an sRGB image.

Tomm,
I appreciate your input. However, note that this is a RAW file so (unless I'm seriously mistaken) you can't lose info by opening it. What I'm trying to figure out is how to open it in a space other than the one that set in the camera.

Rich--is the changing that preference setting the only way to change the color space? In other words, you can't have a different space for each image you open?
Btw, which is the best space to use for opening and manipulating RAW files? Right now, I'm generally printing straight from Capture, but I suppose at some point I will need to export to Photoshop.
