I never said to eliminate Canon, I just meant it would mean good things for our future. Canon has way other markets besides DSLR's that will keep them rolling. I am just glad to see Nikon doing so well lately.

Sorry
I was reacting to BenV comments, not yours
There is a nikon d80 replacemant coming in the next couple of months as i have spoken to a nikon rep, But the D3X will not be coming out this year as he was told, but early next year. lets just watch this space and see what happens............
No, Canon will never go away and that's certainly a good thing for us all. However, as Nikon has reasserted themselves at the top of the market from a quality standpoint, surely Canon will respond. The latest round of releases may not be enough to unseat Canon on a total digital sales quantity, but Sony, Olympus, Sigma, et. al. will certainly be licking their wounds. At this point it will be next to impossible for any third manufacturer to crack into the mid-teens from a market percentage POV without a step-change in technology (and next to impossible even with it).

I think if a 3rd company wanted to get in on the action, they would have to build up their lens market first before trying to tackle the camera section.
The D90 specs are typical of the prosumer body type in my opinion. Its rival the XSi will have stiff competition if these specs are true. However, SLR users will always have their personal preference of brand because of technical difference, compatibility issues, and of course ergonomics.
However, I do believe that the D90 (assuming these specs are true) offer something to people shopping for an SLR that the XSi really cant. Yes, you will most likely invest more into a D90 as opposed to its Canon counterpart, but you do manage to get some really cool features such as the GPS tracker that the D300 has. The mere fact that they have "video playback" now on the D90 will seal the deal for consumer looking for a all-in-one camera like they have had before with point and shoot cameras.
It will be a very interesting fall for both companies.
I'm still hoping the video feature is somewhat better what I think it will be. I'm dreading the thought of having to hear about what a gimmick it is if it's not done right.
why cant nikon and canon just join forces? when i become filthy rich.. im going to buy canon and nikon and just join them together so all the fighting will be done

More competition... not less!
correct.
merging Nikon and Canon would then kill innovation, true innovation, not the marketing BS designed to amaze consumers and drive their purchase in the direction expected by the company.
Yup, we clients need more competitors, not less. Which is why, from a Canon shooter's point of view, I welcome Nikon's efforts. And Pentax,'s. And Sony's, and Samsung's, and whoever else's who wants to get involved.
Wow, this is an extremely liberal point of view! Join forces, be happy, everything should be green! It really shows that Liberalism is a mental disorder!
