Got this shot while wandering around Tacoma during lunch this past week.

Let me know what you think?

Not very modern - and there are lots of things compositionally that get in the way of the photo for me. The tree in the middle, the building in the middle top, the fact that the building isn't level so the sky wedge on the upper right is not symmetrical. I think you can do better

A very cleaver idea. I really like your thought process here. My only thoughts are to rotate a tiny tad to straighten. A very nice first entry - and definitely welcome to the FM forums. Glad to have you here!

An eye catcher, and though I like it as it is, what if you cropped out all but the reflective glass front?

Welcome to the forum, John; look forward to seeing more of your work.

I have though about recropping to just the windows, but wasn't sure I liked it. I may try it again this weekend and see how it looks.

Decided to take the advise and cropped the image down to just the windows on the building. Definitely looks less cluttered now.

I disagree. The Modern period in Architecture started in 1900 with some late 1890s era buildings being included, this building looks to be younger than that. We are now in what, assuming that the usual naming convention holds true, will be called Recent Architecture...

p.s. Great shot btw. I like it.

Jerry Y,

I asked the same question of a friend who is also on this board. What exactly qualifies as "modern"? Is it modern in the architectural design sense? Or modern in the sense that it is something recently constructed? I think either are valid interpretations for this assignment.

I would argue that the picture isn't of the reflection but of the glass building. In that case, it is modern. I like the juxtaposition of the old and the new.

I reshot the picture today. We actually got sun a lunch today. This time, I borrowed a 100-300mm telephoto so I could get a tighter shot on the building. This one turned out much brighter and more detailed than the previous one.

Just want to say thanks to everyone for all the help. The advise paid off and I made it to the finals. :-)

Good luck to everyone else.
