p.1 #1 · New to the 1D!

Hey folks! Just got my first 1D body, a Mark II and had a couple questions. First off it seems that the previous owner embedded his name into the copyright on every picture taken with the camera, how do I go about changing this? Also here is an example of how the file names are coming out 'HI6F8192.jpg' is it possible to customize this? Also if you have any other neat tricks for the 1D Mark II, I would love to know!

You can change the owner name using the EOS Utility software (well, that's what it's called on the Mac). You can't change the file name on the MkII - though I understand you can on the MkIIn. The prefix is set at the factory and is (supposedly) body unique. If you use the Canon software to download images, you can have a different filename applied, or change it with some scripting.

Matt,

EOS Utility is the same for both Mac and PC. Go download the latest version (have your cameras serial number ready)

As for the filename, mk2's had a unique identifier. To change it, you will need an application that handles that on ingest. Photo Mechanic is a popular tool for this. On the PC there are other, free apps, that you can use, such as Bulk Rename Utility

No real tricks for the mk2, except to take any small CF or SD cards you have, and learn to save your "settings" to a small card. The mk2 only supports 1 profile per card =( hence the use of small cards, but keep a few handy with tags for venues that you frequent. Use it to get you to your baseline settings for that venue/sport, and you can switch around easily, without forgetting some of the more complex settings or custom functions.

But I do believe you MUST use a Firewire cable to set your name and the personal functions in the camera. USB won't do.

Also make sure you have the right 1D2 driver for your OS. You can download proper driver from canon website if you don't have the original CD. Enjoys your new camera
