Here are some animal and bird pics from the zoo, it was free admission and many people turned out to enjoy the ambiance and drink lemonade. Comments welcome
I like that last gorilla image a lot, the eyes are captivating and the color palate suits it. Well done.
Is the look of the first image a result of processing or shooting through a screen? I like the tonality in that one a lot, but the texture seems a bit heavy handed.
Thanks Jammy, the first pic - I call it 'No Problem', is an Urangutan that I have photoed before. I think it is a female - I need to check because it is very photogenic.
In any case, I spent 3 hours on making the picture, and the texture you see is from the Texturizer filter in CS3. It also has tone mapping, contrast work, and several layers of red, black, and white - blend with multiply and then slide the opacity. I tried to watch out for keeping the highlights and not blowing them out.
Also, I applied portrait filters such as smoothing and others. Then, I dodged the eyebrows to bring out some white and set the black balance.
something like that yes. I do not understand why you can crop more with a D3/d700 tho? you'll have the same amount of MP, you loose the 1.5DX crop. So what are your plans? I will probably get a D3 or D700 too, but i know i will miss the DX reach and i don't think i will be able to crop more than i can do now. I do have a D2x and i can't crop more with that either. So i'm curious what your intentions are with the FX format?
Well, it seems the file size will be bigger, so more detail, thus more cropping is possible since detail will be available at a deeper crop
I may keep the D300 and add a couple of new lenses ( if any released ), or maybe get the D700 at 2995. The D3 is still high at almost 5000. One issue for me will be whether to trade the D300 in or keep it as a backup, trade in value would be under 1000
