p.1 #1 · #301: Puppet

Haven't played in a while, hopefully I'll be able to do so more this summer.

"Unlearned, and therefore naught but a puppet of the world around them"

C&C welcome and appreciated.

Hey buddy. I haven't been able to play either. Just really busy. I do stop by from time to time to check. Looks like a few others haven't played in a while also. I like this shot and the concept. The only thing for me is that it is to dark overall. I think I understand where you were going with this and the effect you wanted, however, it gets lost because of the overall tone and takes away from a great shot.

Thanks Steve, I agree it needs some work, I'll see what I can do.
Hope you have time to play soon too!

Nice image, Jason. The dark tones make it a bit creepy......but that's part of what makes it interesting

I like this shot a lot, Jason. I'm not sur it needs to be lightened up. What makes it peculiar, though, (for me) is the dumb expression on the puppet's face. I like the dramtic lighting but then there is that silly face. It's hard to express exactly what I mean but I think the lighting would have worked better with a subject that is a little less frivolous looking. You've seen those puppets with sad clown faces, for instance. One of those would have been perfect for this lighting. Regardless, I think it is is a very creative entry. :thum:

All the best,

Endre

I like it too Jason, certainly has appeal. The lighting gives it some kind of mystique.

Thank you Peter, I was going for a heavier, darker image, glad you found it interesting.

Much obliged Endre, always helpful to get detailed insight from someone else. The puppet originally had a smiling mouth and it's tongue sticking out, which I changed. I thought about changing his mouth to a frown, however I wanted to leave a bit more up to the viewer by not giving it a definite expression, but leaving the puppet's opinion during contemplation of the strings and handles above to the viewer to imagine.
I'll see what I can do about making it look less silly though, looking at it again I think the eyes could indeed use some work.

Thanks again.
Jason

Thanks Bill, you can do a surprising amount with three mini-maglights and a remote shutter.

I like this image. The lighting is really good, and the dark tones work really well. Good one Jason!

Thank you Carrol, to induce thought is one of my main goals when working with images, so that is a very nice compliment indeed.

P.S. Thanks, it's good to be back.

Well done. The lighting is the key here and makes the drama in the shot. To me the puppet looks sad, like it has been imprisoned somewhere.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Gotsy, interesting the different impressions people have of the puppet's face.
