I have been using smugmug for two years now and have nothing but good things to say from the quality of prints to responsiveness of the staff when I have had questions. I choose smugmug for its ability to customize the site, printing and process of credit cards which I do not have time to do. As far as setting up different prices in different galleries, I do it all the time and my customers do not see my cost when they go to buy photos. Good luck

Hello Brian,
I gotta say that I'm getting a bit worried. How can it be that SM never gets bad reviews, their staff is so quick their replies arrive practically before the questions (emails) are sent, and my experience is no different?
This just doesn't sound right, but it's all true. I've only had an account for less than a month and I have absolutely nothing negative to say about an experience that I've had with them. And if the truth be known, I was having lightning-fast responses from them even before I had a account. Which is probably one of the very reasons I now have a SM Pro account.
What a concept: Take good care of your customers and they'll take good care of you. Too bad 90% of the other businesses out there don't understand this.

Let it be known the one complaint I do have with SM is they are generally slow releasing new products and listening to thier customers about product needs. EVERYONE at SM has been begging for the ability to sell packages as well as web sized digital downloads since I have been with SM (2 years now) and they said they are on the list to do....but still haven't seen them. Granted I have no idea what it takes to release some of these requeste products and just like any business you need to rate what is important and need to be workd on/improved/released first....but if your looking for that single negative with SM - this would be it for me. Other than that - 2 years of nothing but exceptional experiences.
I have been using Smugmug for over 8 months now and I have had about 50 sales through them. I also take orders via my email address and then I fulfill those pictures locally and either mail them out or hand deliver them on the ballfield. When I do it that way I am able to offer packages and discounts to my customers. I know SM has promised that they will offer packages and discounts soon. I actually got an email last week about a new "cart" process they are working out the kinks on where the customers would have package or discount options. I really would have liked if they offered something like exposuremanager does where I can preset a certain discount like a "free 5x7 with $20 in orders" or get "20% off all purchases over $100". Then you actually can hand out a business card or flier at the event with the code for that discount. Then you could set it so that the coupon is only good until a certain timeframe. This way people will go to the site right away while the event is fresh in their minds and order...hopefully. If you would like take a look at my site by following the link www below. Let me know what you think.
I've had a couple thousand dollars of print sales off that site (I rarely sell prints). You get 85% after cost, and whenever you want a check for your balance you send an email to [email protected].
Only positive experiences with that place, and they get better by the minute.
I customized my site and am using it as my portfolio: www.benrudick.com
Oh, and check out dgrin.com---it's the smugmug community.
Phillip get to work customizing your site! The forums over at dgrin.com are very helpfull. I put off customizing for almost a year because I didn't know anything about HTML, don't worry they've got everything there for you. Just copy paste into the right spots and you'll have a better running site in no time. I'm finally going to be updating mine thanks to Ben's other post. You can see my site by clicking on the www button. Good luck!

Carl,
Thanks for the encouragement for tuning up my site. I couldn't agree more with you.
However, for the moment, my time is very limited. My wife just lost her mother to cancer after a seven month battle. For the moment, we are both in the process of settling her estate which entails many trips to MO which is an 8 hour trip each way. Once we are back under one roof, I will indeed get to work on all of my neglected projects and other responsibilities as well.
I have nothing but praise for SM. Their astoundingly quick responses to my emails is a record in my book as it most likely is in yours.
BTW, I did indeed take a look at your site and found it most interesting that, from what I briefly read, you moved from Chicago (where we now live) to Colorado. We still have a home in NM, but have found memories of fly fishing in CO. I have family living in Denver. Most are in Santa Fe. Small world.
