This is the doorway to a beautiful old (by North American standards anyway) limestone church in our little town. I love the gorgeous stonework and woodwork in the building. Comments and critiques are most welcome.

Steve:
I really like the narrow crop, unusual in WA but perfect for the image. Only it "feels" a little off-centre, and maybe a hint of pincushion distortion. Good entry overall though.

I agree with the tilt although I am not as comfortable with the crop especially since the color at the top distracts the door? the green grass could use a bit more saturation on my monitor as well....

All the best...

Hi Rich,
You were right on all accounts. The stonework being old isn't quite even and it was throwing me off, so when I measured carefully in photoshop with the ruler I was able to fix it--or at least I think I was. Thanks for your keen eyes. It is weird that there was a touch of pincushion because I shot this with the wide end of my 70-200 f/4L IS, so if anything it should have barrel distortion not pincushion. Perhaps the slight pincushion is in the brick work. In any event your comment really helped and I appreciate them very much.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your comments. I am pretty sure I got the tilt fixed. The top of the door is a hard choice. To remove the green from the roof one has to crop to a point where the very nice carving of the name and date are removed. I decided I liked the carving enough to leave the green roof in. It kind of fits the building as well. The whole roof is wooden and painted that same green which really sets it apart and the green roof makes it a bit of landmark, so I thought leaving it in made sense. Thanks for taking the time to add your comments. They certainly helped and I really appreciate them.

Hi Steve
I think you have the balence just right. Any tighter and you`d lose the geography of the door any wider and you`d lose the detail in the door.
Take care and good luck

Hi Mark,
You have summed up my thoughts about the crop very well. I suppose other crops could be nice too, but I think this is the one I like. Thanks for taking time to comment.
