p.2 #1 · Voigtlander 180mm - sleeper lens?

I see no CA unless I really, really push things. It is generally considered (see comments like Lloyd Chamber's) as one of the best APO-corrected lenses around. Hell, I tested my (now sold) 90AA R against it's baby brother my Cv 90/3.5 APO. Both using HPHK adapters.

Resolution was on-par at 100% and the CV showed no CA off a reflective subject in bright light that had the 90AA ( which admittedly is not Leica's best APO corrected lens) showing some modest fringing.

If the change in adapter isn't helping, something is amiss with your unit. Keep your eyes open and your wallet warm - they do pop up.

As an aside - just paid (a bit too much) for a CV 75/2.5 SL to go with my 90 and 180 (am migrating to Nikon). That said, I'd got my 90 and 180 cheap, so my rationalization was it just bumped the average up to closer to normal. My 58/1.4 and the 75 should be here next week - should be fun. The CVs are impressive glass - as the rising prices on the SLs would demonstrate.

Thanks for the additional info Rob, I will keep an eye out for one. I have the 58SLII and the EOS 125/2.5, which I also got for a good price before things went crazy.

Well that didn't take long. I just found and paid for a LN copy for Nikon. Only bad news is that I have an M42 adapter coded for 180/F4, and I'll have an extra hood once the replacement arrives.

Well done. Should have you do my shopping for me .

Now sounds like you need a 75/2.5 or 90/3.5 APO to make use of that hood (which is getting hard to find at a decent price BTW) ;>

Can't help you on the 90/3.5 APO, but www.kevincamera.com has new old stock 75/2.5 SLs for sale - not cheap though $595 (look near end of Voigtlander section). Have used him a number of times, solid vendor, but not inexpensive. His last used one w/hood is on it's way to my humble abode as we speak. Nikoncafe has a thread discussing the 75.

Just got my CV 58/1.4 II - VERY NICE. I've owned a lot of primo and costly APO and non-APO glass over the years and the CV SL and SLII line rank among the bets of them - for a lot less coin than most.

The CV 58mm/1.4 II is an awesome lens at a cheap price.. and works great on the Canon 5d with a cheap focus confirm adapter. At f2 it is extremely sharp from corner to corner, and even at 1.4 it is extremely sharp.

I'm sure the CV 180 is no exception, though I don't have first hand experience.

The 58 SLII is amazingly sharp at around F8 or so and has decent bokeh, but I should join the ranks of the 1.2 Rokkor owners soon as I've had a lens for 9 months or so and will be getting a conversion kit from Jim soon, so I don't know if the SLII will stay in the bag much longer.

For 90mm I love the OM90/2, and a little shorter than that I use the Contax 35-70 VS. Never say never, but I have no plans to change them right now

Mike

Edit, just to be clear I didn't mean it's not sharp until F8, I just have some great examples taken at that setting....

I had the Rokkor - be interesting to see what you think of it vs. the CV

I'll post some comments and examples, although I prefer to look at real photos rather than run scrupulous tests.

Off topic for this CV thread, Jim is converting a 35mm VFC PC for me... it will ship with my 1.2 conversion kit.....can't wait

Same here - shooting test charts and brick walls is fine, but the look of real subject matter is how I test.
NIce on the VFC. My Rokkor 58/1.2 had the JB kit - he does great work. Wish EoS lenses mounted as securely.
