Hi All. I'm heading to Costa Rica soon and taking some 1D2 cameras with me.
I was wondering if anyone has knowledge of the electrical outlets for there as well as Nicaragua? I am coming from the US. I need to be able to charge my batteries obviously. I noticed on the Canon Battery Charger it says input is 100-240V 50/60Hz. I don't know much about eletrical, but obviously I don't want to ruin my batteries during charge, or not be able to plug into the wall.
Any info and insight you could provide is appreciated. Thanks.
Yep, both Costa Rica and Nicaragua are US plugs and 120 volts (no converters needed).
CR will have reliable power most everywhere. Nicaragua is less reliable, if you end up in a smaller town you may have generator power only, and only for a few hours a day.
Make sure that you have good insurance and you are covered out of US. Both Nica and CR are very safe countries, but the folks are poor and there is a possibility of theft. I just got back from two weeks of Nicaragua and a few days in CR and had a great time. The people in Nicaragua are super friendly and genuine.
They use 120v so you won't need voltage converters.
The friend's place I stayed had a mix of plugs, some two-prong US plugs, some mixed plugs that were two pronged and both straight and round to allow both US and European plugs, and some three-pronged US adapters.
Basically, if you go, you should be fine so long as you have two-pronged adapters.
My recommendation though would be to get a two-prong to three-prong converter, plug a power strip into that converter, and then you'll have all the plugs you need to keep you happy. That's what I did and it worked perfectly.
Then I accidentally left it in CR by mistake, but that's another story.
