p.1 #1 · Iowa Birds :D

Ah yes nothing like being at Home Sweet Home Iowa
I spent a few hours at a State Park about 10 minutes down the road > Came up with a lot of shots, but I left my Good PC in California because I forgot how OLD my PC here in Iowa is.............. So PP is at a snails pace to say the least. To view the photo at 100 % I have to click on 100 % and wait about 3 minutes or longer............ Unbelievable. So needless to say I'm not processing many photos til I get back to California.

Here are a few that I suffered through, Hope you find them Worthy of such hard work More like tediously boring !!!

This is only the third time I've tried to use fill flash. There was heavy cloud cover and spitting rain. So thought I'd give the fill and better beamer a shot.

Also used my CHAD BAG and shot from the Truck.

Mark III
EF 500 IS with 1.4x = FL 700mm
ISO 1600
Shutter speeds were 300 - 500
Aperture f/8ish

Take it easy > I'm still trying to learn fill flash and I tried to pick out the photos with no Red Eye as I have no idea yet how to fix that.

Hey Anthony I know slow pc's think of it as fate...3 min. for a 100% view means you have to take it easy, live the Iowa rhythm brother
Amazing shots Anthony, wonderful smooth bgs and great details
Then again it's pretty hard to go wrong w a MKIII and a 500mm F4 IS
Problably a bit more saturation on the greens would help..your monitor is so old it lost all the colours

Thanks Nello > Slow PC = time not taking photos > Just processing them
I added some global saturation at about 6 or 8 in PP and that was it. Maybe I should try a little extra green saturation. Nice idea. Monitor is fine > Operator is OLD

Thanks Lil > The first bird isn't a Flicker it's a Red Bellied Wood Pecker. But he was being cute and a little hard to photograph. He would only spend a few seconds in one spot.
Appreciate the comment Lil

the first is a female red-bellied woodpecker. the male's red on the top of the head extends all the way down to the beak.
The other bird is a rose-breasted grosbeak.

Nice shots.

I believe you did a good job with that fill flash, Anthony. It hardly shows in you pictures. About the red eye: don't touch it! That's the color of the RB''s eyes. (JK)
My favorite is the RBG, but they all have nice detail and very good lighting. Well done.

I......O......W......A.............what's the hurry buddy, got the same problem with my 'good' computer but ordering parts for a new one as we speak!

I think the flash looks excellent, I do think you have a 'coolish' color cast as the reds are palish and more orange or pinkish in the case of the grosbeak. Other than that, the flash sure works well with eye detail.

Take care...............Karl

How do we know these birds are actually from Iowa? They are probably more of your holdouts like that eagle!! Too bad you have rain, you should move to Seattle, bright sunny day here.

Nice shots Anthony, nice detail in these. I am a bit partial to the grosbeak.

Now just sit back and chill, stop harping on the computer, you are on vacation relax, slow down.

Your long lost brother,

Tim

Very nice Anthony! Love the red-bellied. FWIW, I find fill flash more useful on sunny days to lift the shadow areas. Overcast days let's me use available light with less worry about shadows. When you get back, let's talk about bringing some of those images over to my place for a PP session!

Hey Dan. My wife and I live near Marengo, IA on a little 10 acre plot, and we own 150 acres south of Washington, IA > Plan on building a new house and moving there sometime in the future. We are currently living North of San Fransisco and come back home on occasion to play around on the farm. The Park was Lake Iowa > They drained the lake a few years ago and cleaned and added new fish habitat. It's a great place and they've done a lot to improve it.

Thanks for commenting and glad you liked the shots
