Crows / Ravens

For me these black birds are a real challenge.

Very nice, Roger.

Was just watching a crow get chased across our creek here this morning by a hoard of swallows.

Have you tried using a fill flash of some sort (I assume your slight displeasure is with the shadow details)?

I have a tough time with these also. I find it best to shoot them in soft light. Sometimes a polarizer helps if they sit still long enough. I like the last crow the best, nice expression.

Black and white birds are a challenge especially when a bird has both these colors. You did good here.

Roger,

you've done well here. They're so hard in direct light. I find them easier in the trees with diffused light.

I love how we can so well see the difference in between a crow & a raven in these shots.

Congratulations

Lil

Cool shots Roger! unlike others I prefer them in harsh light! I like how their feathers shine and reflect the light, thus I choose #2 as fav.
You can see the sky reflecting back from its feathers! cool

Crows and Ravens are very difficult to shoot and must have great light. You did very well and details are great here. I think shooting black birds are harder than white ones. Exposures are wonderful.

I am going to try fill flash but as of yet I haven't gotten around to doing it. Gooood idea.

Great job carrying the detail in the eye area Roger. I find these all done very nicely, the details from the head down thru the chest feathers are great

After thinking about it I also like them in harsh light. Thanks for making me think.
