I really like the composition and all the detail. That looks like bird's eye maple on the guitar neck, very nice!

The light really brings forth the texture in the wood, so much is expressed in such subtle light.

That's a great shot which covers all the basics - subject, lighting, composition - very well.

But which instrument is it? I thought guitars have 6 or 12 strings.

I, too, want to know what instrument it is! (never seen a 7-string guitar.)

Thanks for the nice comments all! I have not had much time to participate in the forum lately, but I had this idea, and gave it a try. The guitar is a 7 string guitar. It is tuned the same as a conventional 6 string, except that it has a extra low string. I tune that to an A an octave below the 5th string A, although some 7 string players tune it to a B.
You are right Nick, the wood is bird's eye maple. My main 7 string guitar has an ebony fingerboard, but thought I would use this one for the color and texture.
