p.1 #1 · #291: Seneca Haven

Whilst kayaking in our local lake last evening I caught the distorted reflection of Squaw Island (taken in monochrome, over sharpened and toned on post processing).

Squaw Island is the only island in Canandaigua Lake, one of the 11 NY Finger Lakes.
The lake is 15.8 miles long and averages 1 1/2 mile wide, was created glaicially and has a maximum depth of around 270 ft.
The island, which is approximately 11,000 years old, is at the extreme north end of the lake, and history says that during the Sullivan Expedition against the Six Nations of the Iroquois in 1779 the island was used to hide the Seneca Indian women and children (it must have been a tight fit....its a very small island!)

Hi Peter,

Gorgeous shot. I like the B & W treatment here. It suits the subject very well and the distorted reflections are great. Good luck this week.

Very lovely! For me, the reflection is what really makes it a great shot.

This is truly beautiful.

I'm reminded of the illustrated chapter headings in my really old books. The treatment is just fantastic. Great job!
