This reminds me of a comic version of a motivational poster. It showed a group of forks and one of them had it's tines all bent out of shape. The caption was "Just because you are unique doesn't mean you are useful".
Hi, and welcome to the Forum.
Interesting idea! - I'm wondering how it might be to try another shot like it that includes the full shadow of the standing paper clip. The shape of that shadow is neat... but cut off. And perhaps arrange things so that there are no clips behind the standing one - so that it's shape is well defined against the dark BG and not cluttered.
Just an idea. You could give it shot and see what you think.

I think I will play with something like this myself. I have both large and small multi colored clips. I should, even with my aged and feeble mind, be able to come up with something interesting. If I do I will credit you in the post for the idea.
contrary to Carrol (with all due respect)....I really like the composition and the selective lighting for your subject, with the darker 'normal' clips in the background. I don't think we need the whole shadow...it's just an accent.
great take on this theme

I'm leaning Peter's way.. I like how the shadow isn't distracting.. I also like Carrol's thoughts about the contrast though.. Here is another take of it:

Heh. I'm gonna be The Loner here, and say I prefer the original; because feels more balanced to me. I also like the way the clips in the first are arranged in a tight group, I can just imagine them as a high school clique, ignoring their fellow classmate. Excellent work John!
I like the new one better. (I think the full shadow echos the distortion of the clip.)
And I like the cleaner BG.
Agree with Bev that it could be darkened a tad.
Nice work!
