Terri, this is very clever, and very nice - I like it. The light that spilled in back of the brush pulls my eye away from the subject and out of the frame, 'tho - if it were mine I think perhaps I would burn it or clone the shadow to cover it, but that's just me... Nice work!
Love this shot! Great idea. Can I ask how you accomplished this one? Burning the shadow sounds like a good idea since it would really make it look like the light is only coming from the bristles. Great work, very creative.
Thanks for the comments all! I may try some more painting with light soon!
Here's how it's done...camera on a tripod set to "BULB". I used a shutter release cable, so that I can control how long the shutter will remain open (this one was open for 19.9 seconds). In a completely dark room, I used a flashlight (I made a snoot for on the end of the flashlight with tin foil...to flatten out the light more) to draw where I wanted their to be light. I wanted some light on the paint brush...so I slowly went of it. Then I wanted the sweeping look from the paint brush off...I just kept going back and forth with the light...following my path. That's it!
