p.1 #1 · Coffee at the Cemetary

I was getting to work this morning, and I spotted this woman having coffee sitting on one of the ancient graves in a church cemetery (not as creepy as it sounds since this is a common walkway).

I asked for her permission to snap a couple shots. But in my haste, I only took a few of them and in retrospect, I should have taken my time to better compose it.

Anyways, nothing I can do now about it.

Here are two photos mid-processing. The first one if I decide to keep, I'll have to paint out the branch obscuring the head. And maybe work on the conversion a bit more to bring out the head.

The second one I'm really looking for suggestions. I'm thinking about desaturating everything but the red leaves.

Comments? Criticism? Suggestions on the post processing?

Damn. I really wish I had found an optimal composition. Live and learn, I guess. Next time I'll have to take my time.

The colour shot is a bit out of focus (or focused this side of the woman) and may not be suitable. It is overexposed too, or else you have cranked up the contrast too far. You should include the EXIF data with posted images so that we can use it to better assess the merits of the image and offer better advice without having to guess what you did when shooting.

Consider cropping off the bottom, right and top to put more emphasis on the woman and to remove the worst of the bright areas at the top right.

I can't help much with the B&W but it too seems to have a lot of contrast.

For future shots I would consider taking at least one wider view that can be cropped any way you choose later on without running out of subject matter. The only restriction is the number of pixels you have to play with.

I like the 1st one better.

The 2nd seems too have too much going on that creates competition between grave, women, tree etc.

The first would be improved without the hanging branches. But much better composition and story than the first.
