p.1 #1 · USM broke? HELP!

My wonderful Canon 85mm 1.2L seems to have a serious problem! The autofocus is trickling along and taking about 20sec to focus, I'm guessing its a fault with the USM. Is this a big repair job?

Is it Mk 1 or 2...MK 1 will cost a fair bit to replace
If its 1 fix it count your losses then sell it pronto !!!

Think it must be a Mk 1 as I can't see any ref for a Mk 2. Wish it was something I could have a go at myself!

Are you in CPS? If so, pop up to Elstree (if you can) and have a word with them and see what they think. I have found them very helpful to deal with, especially in person.

p.1 #5 · USM broke? HELP!

The USM broke in my Canon 50 f/1.4 just last week. I couldn't believe it, the lens was used so gently and carefully. After not using it for awhile, I took it out of my bag, and it just wouldn't autofocus at all.

I walked it over to phototech, a camera/lens repair shop near me. It ended up costing $150 to be fixed, I haven't received the new lens yet.

I've actually found a lot of people with the 50mm f/1.4 micro usm going out.
