The early light realy sets off the sandstone formations of the Borrego Badlands, in the Anza-Borrego Desert, California. The Vallecito Mountains are in the distance.
Nice capture, the colors and textures of the desert scape are memorialized beautifully. The little jpeg doesn't do it justice, I'd like to see the big version.
Man oh man, I kept scrolling down and it kept getting better! Having passed through there a lot as a kid I know the area well and your image matched those in my own head. No, it bested them. GREAT shot.
That meandering canyon really drew me into the picture; The colors on the upper horizon (what I saw at first glance until I scrolled down) struck me as over saturated at first. However, the neutral colors and high detail of the foreground balances the image nicely, I think. It looks like a Maxfield Parish print!
You put a lot of effort into this shot; From being in place for the first light to the post production. Take a well earned bow!

this is very beautiful, such a richness of harmonious colour. the light is really awesome. and a really effect composition with those meandering ravines travelling into the distance.
Makes me wish to be hiking up that draw in the early morning. Great light Jeffrey, I would put this as almost as good as your Zabriskie Point shot. To bad 'bout the atmosphere ...
