Assuming you aren't looking for ancient hardware, if it doesn't say SATA, SATAII or SCSI its going to be a PATA drive, the types of which are all backwards compatible. Worst case you might end up with a drive a slower than max speed, but unless its a really old slow drive this shouldn't be an issue either.

I shoot raw/jpg, is it (hyperdrive) faster at displaying large jpgs, and can it be set to display only jpgs or will it scroll through all of the duplicate images?
